Job summary

Gerdau in Huntington, Indiana is seeking a Turning Bay Operator responsible for safe operation, setup, quality inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Turning Bay equipment to meet customer requirements and production standards.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and 3+ years of manufacturing experience, with strong mechanical aptitude and a safety-first mindset. Shift schedules include C crew and D crew rotations as described in the posting.

Qualifications

  • Three or more years of manufacturing experience preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safety and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, set up, and monitor Turning Bay equipment, including listed machinery.
  • Load and unload trucks accurately and route material correctly.
  • Enter production data hourly into HTIS and maintain records.
  • Perform quality inspections, gauge verification, and 100% ZF inspections.
  • Identify and process non-conforming material using MQ1 procedures.
  • Follow customer-specific requirements, quality policies, SOPs and work instructions.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and assist Maintenance/Engineering as needed.
  • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and comply with plant safety policies.
  • Develop ability to set up all Turning Bay equipment, including creating new Rattunde programs.
  • Achieve and maintain Level 1 NDT Operator certification or higher.

Turning Bay Operator

The Turning Bay Operator is responsible for the safe operation, setup, quality inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Turning Bay equipment while ensuring customer requirements and production standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, set up, and monitor all Turning Bay equipment, including the Rattunde, Turner, Polisher, Hex Bundler, Galdabini Bump Straightener, NDT equipment, demag, and transfer car.
  • Load and unload trucks accurately and ensure material is routed to the correct location.
  • Enter production data into HTIS hourly and maintain accurate production records and tallies.
  • Perform quality inspections, gauge verification, testing equipment verification, and 100% ZF inspections.
  • Identify and process non-conforming material using MQ1 procedures.
  • Follow customer-specific requirements, quality policies, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues, and assist Maintenance and Engineering as needed.
  • Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Work independently on trained equipment and develop the ability to set up all Turning Bay equipment, including creating new Rattunde programs.
  • Achieve and maintain Level 1 NDT Operator certification or higher.

C crew: Thursday 11am-5pm & Friday-Sunday 5am-5pm

D crew Thursday 11pm-5am & Friday-Sunday 5pm-5am
