Job summary

Valmont Industries is seeking a skilled Manufacturing Operator in Elkhart, IN to join our production team. You will operate hand-held grinders, load programs, and process materials per shop drawings, ensuring quality and on-time shipments.

The role requires reading blueprints, tape measures, and maintaining strict safety and traceability standards. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in manufacturing, strong teamwork, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Three to five years in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read blueprints/shop drawings.
• Ability to read a tape measure to within 1/32”
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to work with others.

Responsibilities

• Operate a hand-held grinder to finish small part components.
• Load machine programs for product orders.
• Process material per shop drawings using designated machines.
• Troubleshoot causes of operating errors and determine resolutions.
• Maintain material traceability and perform lean/5S housekeeping.
• Communicate information with co-workers, Shift Lead, and Production Manager.
• Perform light maintenance and minimize downtime.
• Seek opportunities for continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Essential Functions

Ability to perform the functions of the job while adhering to the Safety Absolutes. Operate a hand-held grinder to finish small part components Load machine programs, as needed, specific to product orders Process material in accordance with shop drawings through the use of designated machines Troubleshoot causes of operating errors and determine possible resolutions Maintain material traceability Seek opportunities for improvements within the manufacturing department Perform tasks according to production needs to minimize downtime Determine machine maintenance needs and perform light maintenance, as needed Manage time to efficiently produce quality products within designated work hours Communicate information and provide feedback, in person, with co-workers, Shift Lead, Shift Supervisor &/or Production/Operations Manager Perform lean, 5S, and/or general housekeeping Other duties as required and/or assigned.

Important Details about the Role

The employee is responsible for their own work. Must be able to work with other employees to complete job. Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment without difficulty. Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery for specific parts. The employee must maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer. The employee has a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, TME (total manufacturing expenses), and customer satisfaction. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Must have an acceptable attendance and prior employment record Three (3) to five (5) years' experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong hands-on working knowledge operating machines Ability to read and understand blueprints/shop drawings The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions Must be able to read a tape measure to within 1/32” Ability to physically lift, push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt and professionally communicate with a variety of people. Must have a high awareness for safety at all times. Must be a person of passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Five (5) + years of previous experience operating machines in heavy/fast paced manufacturing environment (For example: Drill, Lathe Press, Saw, Stretcher, Tapering) Exhibits strong mechanical knowledge The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
