Job summary

Holtec International in Camden, NJ, is seeking a Machine Operator II to set up, operate, and calibrate production machinery, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality output on site. You will monitor performance, perform changeovers, read blueprints, troubleshoot basic issues, maintain equipment, and mentor Machine Operator I personnel, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–4 years of experience operating production machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience performing machine setups, adjustments, and production changeovers.
  • Proficient with hand tools, measuring devices, and deburring tools.
  • Experience operating hydraulic equipment.
  • Forklift experience; certification preferred or ability to obtain.
  • Ability to read fractional tape measurements.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical or machine operating issues.
  • Ability to safely lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and moving equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and workplace safety.
  • Dependable with a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and calibrate production machinery in accordance with work instructions and SOPs.
  • Monitor machine performance and production output to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Perform machine changeovers and equipment setup for production runs.
  • Identify basic mechanical or operational issues, troubleshoot equipment problems, and report findings to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and daily equipment inspections.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and production documentation.
  • Use standard hand tools and measuring instruments, including pliers, tape measures, rulers, hammers/mallets, wrenches, screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, and deburring tools.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations involving fractions and decimals.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Train, mentor, and provide day-to-day guidance to Machine Operator I employees.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist with other production duties as assigned.

Job description

The Machine Operator II is a mid-level manufacturing position responsible for setting up, operating, calibrating, and monitoring production equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. This role is expected to troubleshoot basic machine issues, minimize equipment downtime, and provide guidance and support to Machine Operator I personnel. The ideal candidate has a solid manufacturing background, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Primary Responsibilities

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience operating production machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience in performing machine setups, adjustments, and production changeovers.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, measuring devices, and deburring tools.
  • Experience operating hydraulic equipment.
  • Forklift experience; forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to accurately read fractional tape measurements.
  • Basic math skills, including calculations involving fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical or machine operating issues.
