Job summary

Alfa Laval is seeking a Manufacturing Technician I for the 1st shift in our Richmond, VA facility. You will follow SOPs, perform scrap and rework tasks, operate with PPE, read drawings, and support continuous improvement through 5S and KAIZEN activities.

Responsibilities include recording deviations, assisting with SOP improvements, and coordinating with quality, maintenance, and planning functions. You must lift up to 60 pounds and hold a High School diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Manufacturing Technician I/II preferred.
  • Crane and forklift certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Scrap & Rework % tracking (customer claim, SOP deviations etc).
  • Accurate & safe use of PPE (safety glasses, steel toe shoes, gloves, uniform).
  • Receive daily work assignments and execute production per SOPs.
  • Report deviations to status boards and management.
  • Participate in daily status board meetings and propose solutions.
  • Review and suggest improvements for SOPs.
  • Identify waste and drive KAIZEN improvements (time, motion, transport, inventories).
  • Engage in 5S routines to achieve and sustain 5S standards.
  • Pursue cross-training opportunities across processes to add value.
  • Utilize downtime to learn new processes and drive improvements.

Shift Information

1st shift - Mon-Fri, 6:00am-2:30pm

Brief Description of Position (Job Duties and Responsibilities)
  • Scrap & Rework % (customer claim, SOP deviations etc)
  • Accurate & consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment’s (Safety Glasses, Steel Toe Shoes, Hand Gloves, Uniform others as required by the specific process)
  • Receive daily work assignments from the Team Leader/ Team Manager and execute production with Standard Operating Procedures as a base.
  • Report any deviations (Safety, Quality, Parts, Equipment’s etc related) to Status Boards immediately and update the Team Leader / Team Manager.
  • Be active and engaged in the Daily Status Board Meetings by explaining the deviations and proposing solutions.
  • Review & suggest any improvements for the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Look into your own areas for waste (time, motion, transportation, inventories etc.) elimination opportunities and drive KAIZEN improvements.
  • Engage in daily & weekly 5S routines to achieve high 5S Standard and sustain it.
  • Constantly look for cross‑training opportunities within different manufacturing processes & better ways to add value.
  • Use downtime efficiently to learn new processes and run improvements from the status board activities.
Organizational Components
  • Reporting to Team Manager directly.
  • According to delegation from TL/TM.
  • Stop the production process in case of safety / quality / environmental deviations.
  • Highlight problems and deviations.
  • Initiate and run problem resolution and improvement activities.
  • Communicate with Support Functions (Quality, Maintenance, Order Planning, Warehouse, etc.) as needed.

  • Safe working (Number of minor injuries/accidents)
  • Scrap & Rework % (customer claim, SOP deviations etc)
  • Consistency with the routines (Total Productive Maintenance, Start of shift/End of shift checklist etc)
  • Delivery On Time Performance
  • Productivity (Reported hours, competence matrix achievement)
  • 5S Score for the cell or area, team.
  • Attendance Performance (Punctuality, good attendance, unscheduled absences, time of requests)
  • Adherence to Alfa Laval Inc Policies & Procedures.

  • 2-3 years of experience from the manufacturing environment like machines, equipment, jigs, fixtures, measuring instruments, etc.
  • Able to read drawings, blueprints, manufacturing orders, etc.
  • Intermediate Computer Skills.
Physical & Environmental Factors
  • Physical Requirements (lifting, climbing, standing, equipment use):
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to read Safety Data Sheets for the Aerosols, coolants, etc.
  • Environmental Factors (hazardous materials, work location, work surfaces, exposure).
Other Requirements (i.e., Travel, Motor Vehicle Use, Etc.)
