Job summary

Fairbanks Scales Inc. is seeking a skilled maintenance operative responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining various industrial machines. The role ensures high-quality production while following strict safety and health regulations.

You will inspect equipment like shot blast, metal shears, saws, and brakes, perform routine maintenance, and document work orders for proper routing. Prior experience is preferred, with basic math and measurement skills essential for accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Ability to take accurate measurements using devices such as tapes and rulers.
  • Previous work experience is preferred.

Summary

Responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machinery to ensure machinery produces high-quality products.



Essential Job Duties


  • Ensure machinery runs smoothly and is properly maintained including shot blast, metal shears, saws, and brakes.

  • Operate machinery and equipment according to safety protocols and instructions.

  • Move materials and ensure paperwork and parts are maintained with each work order for proper routing to next area.

  • Troubleshoot issues and perform maintenance, report immediate concerns to Maintenance.

  • Perform quality control, follow reporting and recordkeeping procedures, and report problems to supervisor.

  • Comply with all safety and health regulations.

  • Clean machinery and maintain cleanliness in work area.



Required Qualifications - Required qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. (Additional requirements may be designated by position.)


  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.

  • Ability to take accurate measurements using a variety of devices such as tapes, and rulers.

  • Previous work experience is preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, blueprints, production schedules, and instructions.

  • Ability to learn and differentiate types of structural steel types.

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.



Work Environment - Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.


  • Manufacturing environment. Exposed to high noise levels and temperature extremes, uneven surfaces, and often very dusty.

  • Required to use close vision and be able to focus and visually determine shapes and colors.

  • Ability to hear audible signals and warnings from machines, equipment and plant warning systems.

  • Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.

  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on machine controls or computer to program machines.

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and loads up to 50 lbs. routinely. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach sit and to stand or walk for long periods of time.

  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on machinery.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
