Job summary

Wieland is seeking a Machine Operator I in Granite City, IL.   • 1–2 years of machine operation experience in an industrial setting.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines.

  • Able to perform physical tasks and lift up to 50 pounds when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Set up machines to start a production cycle and perform start-up inspections.
  • Operate one stationary machine and feed raw material to equipment.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues to prevent downtime.
  • Operate forklift safely and within established procedures.
  • Inspect finished products for quality and safety compliance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow safety rules.
  • Flex to support other departments as needed.

Wieland is hiring a Machine Operator I. The Machine Operator I will be responsible for sorting and organizing metal material according to guidelines. Maintain good housekeeping of assigned area. Dismantle and separate materials using hand tools or operation of a machine. Assemble and package metals for shipping. The ideal candidate should have proven forklift driving experience, require little supervision, demonstrate initiative, and have extreme attention to detail. This candidate must also be able to work within a team environment, be organized and flexible, able to work on multiple tasks. This role is located in Granite City, IL, and will be fully on-site.

Hourly Pay Range: $18/hr - $20/hr

Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Pay Schedule: Weekly

Machine Operator I Responsibilities:
  • Work independently and as part of a team with safety as the number one priority.
  • Willingness to follow direction of department leader(s).
  • Set up machine/s to start a production cycle and perform daily start-up inspections prior to use.
  • Proficient capability to operate one stationary machine.
  • Feed raw material to semi-automated machines.
  • Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on the machines and troubleshoot issues before failures and repairs are necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to proficiently operate forklift.
  • Capability to problem solve issues.
  • Inspect finished product to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Perform routine inspection of work area to ensure proper housekeeping.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures. Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety, or HR.
  • Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
  • Other duties assigned with flexibility to work in other departments as needed.
Machine Operator I Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of machine operation experience with process or production equipment in an industrial work environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations - Ability to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. Hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, earplugs, steel-toed shoes, gloves, full body harnesses, or other protective equipment as required by the location and work performed. Some tasks may require work in confined spaces.
  • Use of a respirator may be required for certain tasks. Must be medically cleared, fit-tested, and qualified to wear a respirator when applicable. Must maintain appropriate personal grooming to ensure an effective respirator seal.
  • Self-motivated person with mechanical ability and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to receive direction/guidance from leadership.
  • Good communication and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Ability to read documents and/or written directives and make simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Maintain safety as high priority in all aspects of responsibility.
  • Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.
