Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Covington, GA is hiring an entry-level Floater in our packaging manufacturing plant. You will learn the box-making process, follow safety procedures, and help identify quality issues while supporting operators and trainers.

This role starts at $22.04 per hour, with a 2nd shift schedule (Mon-Fri 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM) and overtime as needed; training on 1st shift during the first three weeks. No degree required; learning mindset and basic English are essential.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role; training provided; no degree required.
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand basic English.
• Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math.
• Must wear safety gear; PPE provided.
• Able to stand and move for long periods; able to lift heavy items.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules and participate in plant safety culture.
• Learn manufacturing process from Machine Operators and Trainers.
• Identify and report quality issues.
• Maintain workspace organization and housekeeping.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

The Floater role is the first step in a stable career in packaging manufacturing. As an entry-level role, our Manufacturing Associates are expected to learn the process of making boxes, including safety procedures, identifying quality issues, manufacturing housekeeping, and how to operate

• Learn the manufacturing process from Machine Operators and Technical Trainers
• Alert Operator to quality issues
• Maintain housekeeping and organization in the workspace
• Perform various other duties as needed

What you need to succeed

• A learning mindset
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English
• Ability to read materials to understand and apply content, such as instruction manuals, procedure manual or assembly manuals.
• Able to read a tape measure and perform basic math
• Must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and other safety gear as required (We will provide any necessary PPE.)
• Ability to stand and walk continuously with occasional kneeling, crouching, squatting, bending, climbing, and grasping.

• Ability to work in an uncontrolled temperature environment (hot or cold)
