Job summary

Michael Foods Wakefield facility is seeking an egg processing operator to monitor temperatures, machine speeds, tank levels, and packaging quality. You will document data, perform routine quality checks, and ensure safety and sanitation are maintained across shifts.

The role requires basic math, English reading/writing, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Overtime and weekend work may be required to support production needs.

Qualifications

Location Description

Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled and curds.

Responsibilities

Position Summary: Operators are responsible for checking egg temperatures, machine speeds, tank levels and leaks. This position is also responsible for keeping machines running efficiently and accurately documenting and reporting data.

This position has the responsibility to comply with safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities related to food safety and quality are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

  • Performs quality check on incoming raw egg and finished product.
  • Performs hourly checks and monitors product quality.
  • Completes required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Monitors machines and ensures they are running efficiently: within range for temperatures, speed and tank levels, no leaks and full of eggs.
  • Responsible for minor adjustments of equipment and troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Communicates machine or product issues to production management and/or maintenance.
  • Makes sure packaging material is kept separated, neat, stored properly and labeled correctly.
  • Operates the forklift and pallet jack.
  • Keeps area and equipment clean using sanitation procedures.
  • Completes die, printer and Bergmier counter change overs.
  • Performs acetic acid bath temperature, chemical and vortexx checks.
  • Checks the CO2 and O2 on the product bags.
  • Responsible for Fallas operations, assisting the dicer operator and pulling samples and records for skids.
  • Accurately programs, tracks and reports out of Data Trace readings per HACCP requirements.
  • Understands the cross contamination and mitigation steps for the area, all grades of eggs, how the Biolonix operates and how the Yamato scale system works.
  • Fills in to give breaks to line employees.
  • Communicates effectively with operators to control egg flows.
  • Mixes brine solution per specification and coating paint.
  • Follows and performs wax filling procedures.
  • Performs manual packaging, sanitizer chemical checks, belt sprayer checks, hand dip checks and properly reports issues.
  • Follows proper SOPs (Standard Operation Procedures).
  • Adheres to safe work practices, follows GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Assumes personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience Required: High school diploma or GED or equivalent.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
  • Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a company pallet jack and forklift license. Experience with pallet jack and/or forklift preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers, vendors or employees of the organization.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
  • Must demonstrate open and honest communication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively with others to complete work assignments.
  • Able to safely lift and carry 50 lbs.
  • Able to work independently or with others in a team environment depending upon the assignment.
  • Self‑motivated while also willing to ask questions and seek direction.
  • Displays responsible behavior at work.
  • Open to change.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty and humid environments.
  • Ability to work around required cleaning solutions.
  • Possesses good hand‑eye coordination.
  • Able to stand on hard surface most of the shift, ascend and descend stairs, bend, stoop or crouch, grasp and reach.
