Tenneco in Indiana is seeking a manufacturing operator to join a cellular operating group on the production floor. You’ll learn, operate, and rotate among stations within each cell, performing set-up, machine operation, and quality checks to meet safety and production standards.

The role requires reading work orders, basic math, mechanical aptitude, and teamwork to support preventative maintenance and lean initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as a team member of a cellular operating group, learn, perform preventative maintenance, set-up and operate machines, rotate to all workstations within each cell.
  • Handle materials and tools, operate machines, assemble and inspect products of varying shapes, sizes and weights.
  • Perform safety checks and preventative maintenance on each machine and complete daily safety check-off lists.
  • Maintain station control of operations, inspect parts to ensure quality, identify problems and assist with corrections.
  • Follow safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in policies.

This position operates machines completing one or more processes toward the manufacturing of exhaust pipe assemblies and components. Perform as an active team member in supporting and performing all the tasks within a cell group.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform as a team member of a cellular operating group, which requires the ability to learn, perform preventative maintenance. Set-up and operate machines and to be able to rotate to all workstations within each cell.
  • Employee must be able to handle materials and tools, operate machines, assemble and inspect all product of varying shape, sizes and weights.
  • Employee must perform the above within acceptable quality, quantity, performance and safety standards.
  • Perform safety checks and preventative maintenance on each machine to assure machines are in safe working condition and complete daily safety check-off lists.
  • Maintain station control of operations, which includes machine parts to specification, inspect parts to assure the quality standards are met, identify production and quality problems and assist Team Leader with problem correction.
  • Employee must perform his/her job within acceptable safety, environmental, quality, productivity and performance standards as outlined in plant policies, handbooks and applicable work instructions.
  • Overtime as required/requested.
  • Follow machine repair procedures if breakdown occurs. Complete basic repairs and adjustments of minor problems. Report all machine problems to Team Leader an/or Maintenance.
  • Perform SPC, visual and gauge inspection, and complete charts and required forms.
  • Clean the machine and surrounding work area.
  • Operate machines as assigned to assist co-workers at other workstations as needed.
  • Perform or assist in part changeovers.
  • Assist in 5S advancement
  • Assist in implementation of Lean principles.

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and building codes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Flexibility to work long hours and other work schedules as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Extensive standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending over, reaching, twisting, arm wrist and hand motion,
  • Good visual ability
  • Frequent skin exposure to chemical – based fluids such as coolant, drawing compounds, lubricating oils, etc
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Adaptability to perform work in multiple departments or cells as trained, or schedules as needed.
  • Basic communication, teamwork, and effective interaction with supervisors & co-workers
  • Decision-making and problem-solving in a fast-paced work environment, including making timely choices within workflow constraints and understanding when to escalation.
  • Independent task completion – ability to complete work independently without constant supervision or direction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This job is performed on the production plant floor and may be assigned to any machines
  • Varying temperatures (cold to hot)
  • Infrequent exposure to outside weather environment
  • Fast – paced work environment
  • Small, confined space around some machines/equipment
  • Wet, slippery floors in some areas
