Job summary

LiDestri Foods in Rochester, NY is seeking a Machine Operator to safely run packaging and processing equipment, maintaining quality and GMP standards.

You will set up machines, perform changeovers, monitor for defects, document operations, and assist with on-line quality checks. Prior machine experience is preferred; wearing PPE required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior machine operation preferred.
• Ability to wear PPE (bump cap, hair net, ear plugs, etc.).
• Ability to use basic computer and communication skills.
• Ability to use various hand tools as required for position/testing.
• Previous forklift experience is a plus.
• Lock out/tag out certification is a plus.
• Continuous improvement and team orientation is valued.

Responsibilities

• Operate machinery, including setup, operation, changeovers, and troubleshooting to detect defects or malfunctions.
• Maintain GMP standards around machinery.
• Perform SOPs for machinery in assigned area.
• Cross-train or receive equipment training as defined by manager.

• Manage and issue raw materials into work orders.

Position Summary

• Safely operate machinery with maximum efficiency, while maintaining product quality and following regulatory and company guidelines for sanitation and safety

Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate machinery, to include machine set-up, operation, change overs, and troubleshooting, to detect product (raw or finished) defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary;
• Maintain GMP (good housekeeping) standards at and around machinery;
• Perform SOPs for machinery in assigned area;
• Cross training or training on equipment as defined by manager;
• Maintain accurate document documentation;
• Maintain and issue raw materials into assigned work orders;
• Work in a safe manner, consistent with company safety rules and regulations;
• Maintain good attendance record per company policy;
• Report food safety & quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Required Education, Skills & Experience

• High School Diploma or GED preferred;
• Prior machine operation preferred;
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (bump cap, hair net, ear plugs, beard net (if applicable), Kevlar gloves, safety glasses and leather, skid resistant work shoes/boots;
• Ability to apply basic computer and communication skills, math functions and reasoning;
• Ability to use various hand tools (knife, water house, band cutters, can opener, scales, Telnet scanners, various small hand tools as required for position/product testing);
• Previous experience operating a forklift (for applicable work areas);
• Lock out/tag out certified;
• Possess a continuous improvement and team orientated mind set.

Working Conditions

• Constant exposure to extreme loud noises;
• Constant work in high places and near moving mechanical parts;
• Constant standing and moving by foot;
• Constant exposure to extreme hot/cold (non-weather) environment;
• Frequent lifting/carrying <50 pounds, reaching and use of fingers;
• Frequent use of hot/cold water hoses;
• Frequent reaching/pulling/bending/climbing stairs/stooping/kneeling/bending;
• Occasional lifting >50 pounds;
• Potential exposure to caustic chemical.
