Job summary

Schupan & Sons in Toledo, OH is seeking a Machine Operator for the 2nd shift (Mon-Fri, 2:30 PM-11:00 PM) to support our production team in a fast-paced metal fabrication environment. This role focuses on operating industrial saws, handling materials, and performing general labor tasks to keep daily operations on schedule.

You will read simple blueprints and measurements, assist with loading/unloading, and work with forklifts and pallet jacks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-6 months of related experience or equivalent.
  • Forklift certified, or ability to become certified.
  • Basic computer familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate industrial saws to cut metal stock according to work orders and specs.
  • Perform general labor including material movement, shop cleanup, and equipment maintenance.
  • Assist with loading/unloading materials using forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Load trucks, wrap and route shipments as needed.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and production teams to meet daily deadlines.
  • Read tape measures and calipers; work with decimals and fractions.
  • Use hand tools to switch saw blades and follow safety protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.

WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE

As a Utility Operator at our Toledo facility, you will support production through a mix of material handling, industrial saw operation, and general labor. You will play a flexible, hands-on role that keeps daily operations running smoothly and on schedule.

HOW YOU WILL DO IT
  • Set up and operate industrial saws to cut metal stock (steel, aluminum) according to work orders and customer specs
  • Perform general labor and support tasks including material movement, shop cleanup, and equipment maintenance
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials using forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Load trucks as needed including material handling, packing, wrapping, and routing of shipments
  • Collaborate with warehouse and production teams to meet daily deadlines and delivery schedules
  • Apply math skills to read a tape measure and calipers, and work with decimals and fractions
  • Use hand tools such as Allen wrenches and screwdrivers to switch out saw blades
  • Follow safety protocols and wear required PPE
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

Basic requirements:

  • Minimum 3-6 months of related experience or equivalent combination
  • Forklift certified or ability to become certified
  • Basic computer familiarity

Physical requirements:

  • Stand and walk throughout the shift; frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive movements
  • Routinely lift up to 25 lbs.; occasionally 50+ lbs.
  • Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to wear all required safety equipment
  • Able to work in a noisy, non-temperature-controlled environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts

QualificationsPOSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 3 to 6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination
  • Familiarity with use of a computer and applications.
  • Forklift certified, or ability to become certified in forklift operation
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Routinely required to stand and walk; use hands to handle and feel; reach with arms and hands; as well as climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Routinely performs repetitive movements such as bending, twisting, reaching, lifting and pulling
  • Routinely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds
  • Specific vision requirements include depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to wear all necessary safety equipment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
  • Routinely work in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
  • Routinely exposed to moving and mechanical parts and potential exposure to electrical shock.
