2nd Shift Machine Operator

Overview: Our Machine Operators are responsible for safely operating production machines, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending improvements to meet customer demand. The role requires adherence to safety rules, GMP, and quality procedures. Job Type: Full-Time

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Work safely, comply with Pratt Industries safety rules, and help hold co‑workers responsible for safety. Participate in Plant Safety Committee.
  • Follow GMPs and Pratt Industries quality procedures; prevent defective product from leaving the facility.
  • Maximize equipment utilization by operating machinery at capacity and speed, improving setup times and reducing downtime.
  • Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of work areas, break rooms, bathrooms, and refrigerators.
  • Understand machine capabilities to drive efficiencies while maintaining quality and minimizing downtime.
  • Train and assist Assistant Machine Operators, Machine Helpers, and Production Utilities on machine duties, downtime, setup, and quality.
  • Cross‑train on other machines and learn other positions in the plant.
  • Complete production, machine operational, safety, and quality reports accurately and timely.
  • Submit maintenance work orders and proactively care for equipment maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Switch duties with co‑workers as necessary and support plant growth and professional development.
  • Adhere to the production schedule and recommend optimizations; report scheduling issues to Supervisor.
  • Work overtime as needed, including short notice and holidays; the plant operates 24/7.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by management.
  • Operate overtime as required.

Qualifications

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 6 months in a manufacturing operation; prior packaging industry experience (paper, plastics, converting) is preferred.

Skills: Ability to read and follow instructions, perform basic mathematics (measurements, percentages, rate calculations), apply common sense reasoning in standard situations.

Certificates: May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.

Physical Demands

The employee regularly stands, walks, talks, and uses hands; lifts up to 50 pounds; may stand, kneel, or crawl. Specific vision abilities include distance, color, and depth perception.

Work Environment

The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions, high places, fumes, vibration, and loud noise levels.
