Job summary

Ionbond in West Chicago, IL is seeking a Machine Operator to operate and monitor high-vacuum PVD coating chambers for aerospace, automotive, and industrial parts. You will load/unload parts, perform inspections, and assist with machine maintenance in a fast-paced production environment.

The role requires 3+ years in manufacturing, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to read English instructions. Shift is 3:00 PM–11:30 PM, with potential weekend work and full-time employment after

Qualifications

• 3+ years in manufacturing preferred; mechanical and electrical troubleshooting a plus.
• Experience operating and reading instructions in English; good manual dexterity.
• Shift: 3:00 PM–11:30 PM; ability to sit/stand for up to 8 hours; US work eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor high-vacuum PVD coating chambers according to customer specs.
• Load and unload parts with care; perform visual inspections after processing.
• Conduct period checks and routine maintenance on coating machines.
• De-fixture batch loads and ensure processes run correctly.
• Maintain clean interior of coating equipment and support setup for production.
• Follow safety and quality procedures and assist with other duties as assigned.

What defines this job?

• Perform assigned functions, processes, and procedures that meet customer orders specifications, quality requirements, and production standards
• Work with supervisors and staff to operate and closely monitor high-vacuum PVD coating chambers
• Conduct periodical checks ensuring the machine and process is running correctly
• Load and unload customer products into machines while handling parts with care
• Perform general maintenance and clean interior of coating machines
• De-fixture batch loads after processing
• Carry out visual inspection on parts after processing
• Other duties as assigned

What do we ask?

Previous experience in manufacturing or a related field is preferred (3+ years), with mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting experience considered a plus. Candidates should be familiar with machine operation and manufacturing tools and equipment, possess strong critical-thinking skills, communicate effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Good manual dexterity is required, with the ability to handle precision-machined parts and read instructions in English, including documents with font sizes as small as 8-point. This position operates Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM–11:30 PM shift, requires the ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8-hour shifts, and may include occasional weekend work. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check and physical screening. *The position may begin on a contingent basis through a staffing agency, with eligibility for full-time regular employment determined after 90–180 days based on production needs and performance.
