Responsibilities

• Respond to CNC machine breakdowns and maintenance requests and determine the cause of the problem.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuits, mechanical components, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, and machine controls.
• Investigate CNC alarms and machine faults rather than simply resetting the equipment.
• Troubleshoot motors, servo systems, spindle systems, drives, encoders, sensors, proximity switches, limit switches, relays, contactors, solenoids, and related components.
• Troubleshoot machine-control problems involving PLC inputs and outputs, machine I/O, interlocks, and other control functions.
• Use CNC diagnostic screens, machine parameters, electrical test equipment, and other available diagnostic tools to isolate problems.
• Determine whether a machine problem is electrical, mechanical, controls-related, or related to another part of the machine or process.
• Make repairs and adjustments necessary to return equipment to safe and dependable operation.
• Test equipment following repairs to verify that the original problem has been corrected and the machine is operating properly.

About the Position

We are looking for a skilled CNC Machine Maintenance Technician to support the day-to-day reliability of our CNC machining equipment and manufacturing systems. This position plays a hands-on role in keeping equipment running, responding to breakdowns, identifying the cause of problems, and making the repairs necessary to return machines to production safely. The technician will work on a wide range of CNC machine systems and will be expected to look beyond the immediate symptom of a failure. The goal is not simply to get a machine running again, but to understand why the failure occurred and address the underlying problem whenever possible. This position requires a strong combination of mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, along with a working knowledge of CNC controls, PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, machine lubrication systems, and industrial electrical systems. The technician will work closely with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and other departments to reduce downtime and improve the overall reliability of the equipment.

What You Will Do

CNC Equipment Troubleshooting and Repair

• Respond to CNC machine breakdowns and maintenance requests and determine the cause of the problem.
• Troubleshoot problems involving electrical circuits, mechanical components, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems, and machine controls.
• Investigate CNC alarms and machine faults rather than simply resetting the equipment or replacing components without determining the cause.
• Troubleshoot motors, servo systems, spindle systems, drives, encoders, sensors, proximity switches, limit switches, relays, contactors, solenoids, and related components.
• Troubleshoot machine-control problems involving PLC inputs and outputs, machine I/O, interlocks, and other control functions.
• Use CNC diagnostic screens, machine parameters, electrical test equipment, and other available diagnostic tools to isolate problems.
• Determine whether a machine problem is electrical, mechanical, controls-related, or related to another part of the machine or process.
• Make repairs and adjustments necessary to return equipment to safe and dependable operation.
• Test equipment following repairs to verify that the original problem has been corrected and the machine is operating properly.

Preventive Maintenance and Equipment Reliability

• Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on CNC machines and associated equipment.
• Inspect equipment for conditions that could lead to future failures, including excessive wear, leaks, unusual noise, vibration, heat, and other abnormal conditions.
• Maintain machine lubrication systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, coolant-related equipment, and other supporting systems.
• Perform machine adjustments, alignment, leveling, calibration, and other maintenance activities as required.
• Identify equipment that is showing signs of deterioration and communicate those conditions before they become major failures.
• Look for repeat failures and work with the Maintenance and Engineering teams to determine permanent corrective actions.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, rebuilds, retrofits, modifications, and other projects intended to improve machine performance or reliability.

CNC Controls and Machine Systems

The technician will work with a variety of CNC machines and control platforms.

Experience with multiple CNC control platforms is beneficial. The technician should be comfortable learning different control systems and using the diagnostic information available from each machine.
