Job description

We're seeking a Machine Learning Researcher to join a well-funded, venture-backed startup developing next-generation AI systems that learn from geospatial and spatiotemporal data. You'll work on advancing machine learning methods capable of understanding complex physical environments using satellite imagery, remote sensing, environmental datasets and other multimodal spatial data.

Working closely with researchers and engineers, you'll investigate new model architectures, develop large-scale learning systems and help translate cutting‑edge research into scalable AI that powers geospatial and spatial intelligence applications.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about applying modern machine learning to understand and model the physical world. Whether your background is in GeoAI, Earth observation, remote sensing, scientific machine learning or another spatially-aware domain, you'll have the opportunity to tackle challenging research problems with real-world impact.

What You'll Do
  • Develop novel machine learning algorithms for spatial and geospatial prediction, classification and representation learning.
  • Design, train and evaluate deep learning models using multimodal spatial datasets, including satellite imagery, aerial imagery, remote sensing and environmental data.
  • Explore state‑of‑the‑art approaches in self‑supervised learning, foundation models and multimodal learning for spatial understanding.
  • Conduct rigorous experimentation, benchmark model performance and analyse results to improve robustness and generalization.
  • Work with large‑scale geospatial and spatiotemporal datasets to build models capable of operating across diverse geographic regions and environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers and domain experts to integrate research into scalable production systems.
  • Stay current with emerging research and contribute new ideas that advance the company's machine learning capabilities.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Geospatial Science or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong understanding of modern machine learning algorithms and deep learning techniques.
  • Experience developing machine learning models using PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX.
  • Experience working with geospatial, spatial or spatiotemporal datasets, including satellite imagery, remote sensing, GIS, mapping or Earth observation data.
  • Experience designing rigorous experiments, evaluating model performance and interpreting quantitative results.
  • Experience translating research into scalable, production‑ready machine learning systems.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to work on open‑ended research challenges in collaborative environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred.
  • Experience working in a startup, research lab or fast‑paced R&D environment.
  • Publications at leading machine learning, computer vision, geospatial or remote sensing conferences or journals, or a demonstrated track record of impactful applied research.
  • Experience with foundation models, self‑supervised learning, multimodal learning or representation learning.
  • Contributions to open source projects, patents or other technical research initiatives.
Work Authorization
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • No visa sponsorship is available for this position. U.S. Citizens and Green Card holders only.
