Job Overview
Phased two‑year Research Assistant (RA) program in the Economic Research Department. RAs support economists by preparing briefings, working on forecasts, writing newsletters, and analyzing data for long‑term research projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform statistical and econometric analysis using state‑of‑the‑art machine learning techniques.
- Organize data for analysis and write computer programs using Python, R, SAS, Stata, MATLAB, and other software.
- Present research results to economists and management through oral and written reports.
- Write programs to automate data collection procedures and design databases for research projects.
- Document data sources, algorithms, and statistical tests; train junior analysts as needed.
- Review literature on research topics and summarize findings for economists.
- Keep abreast of developments in economics and computer science; produce charts and graphs to communicate findings.
- Collaborate with colleagues to implement changes and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of the operation or product.
- Perform related duties as assigned and fulfill job duties in conformance with safety practices.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, or finance (preferred).
- Minimum of two years of experience or knowledge in natural language processing, large‑dataset processing, and related programming skills.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art machine learning methods.
- Demonstrated ability to apply quantitative techniques under general supervision.
- Proficiency with Python, R, Stata, SAS, MATLAB, and the ability to organize data into files for advanced statistical analysis.
- Quickly locating relevant data for research projects, speeches, and presentation visuals.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
