Job description

Position Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units. Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including fuselages, pylons, nacelles, and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the set-up, support, and production of high‑quality products and to help create a highly productive work environment.
  • Supporting responsibilities include planning, checking, and establishing a sequence of work to fabricate, assemble, and inspect hardware to planning, engineering, and quality control requirements.
  • Duties – The Company will provide appropriate job training to enable employees to perform all necessary job functions, including developing new and improved methods of production.
  • Perform multi‑tasking and multi‑machine operation. Use any equipment (hand, power tools, air tools, scanners, and computers) needed to prioritize, complete, and process work assignments.
  • Perform any pickup, touch‑up, rework, part mark, and incorporation of changes to the product as required. Work from prints, sketches, specifications and written/verbal information. Maintain certifications, qualifications, licenses or permits as required to perform work.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment (calipers, scales, etc.) to perform self‑inspection of in‑process and finished work.
  • Ensure that all FDAQ (Factory Data Acquisition) is completed according to work instructions.
  • Perform routine minor machine maintenance as part of daily duties (e.g., replacing machine filters, lubrication/coolant levels, etc.) related to basic Total Preventative Maintenance duties.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, technique sheets, work orders, and other documentation required to complete operation per engineering.
  • Routinely move product within the shop‑defined area, including across aisle, using shop‑assigned equipment as required, and complete transactions necessary to move product to the next operation.
  • Performs verification of dimensions of parts using both mechanical and electronic precision measurement tools.
  • Perform inspection MVP, including first part review, of fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Initiate and document any non‑conforming condition.
  • Maintain required certifications and qualifications as needed (e.g., SLS, BAC, Nadcap, AS9100, crane, sealer, liquid nitrogen, vehicle ops).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable processes (e.g., FOD, Hazmat, OSHA, QMS).
  • Support the continuous flow of product within the manufacturing process by training and assisting employees of the same or lower classification level.
  • Set up and operate computer‑controlled/automated shot peening and abrasive blast equipment, including: identification of areas requiring peening, part set‑up, coverage and intensity requirements, development of saturation curves for a part, intensity verification procedures, mask and unmask as required, re‑work procedures.
  • Load control media, such as computer tape, in control console of equipment, or enter commands to retrieve control instructions from the computer database to operate equipment automatically.
  • Fill the hopper with specific size and media.
  • Measure and check test specimen or part to verify conformance to specifications and to determine required equipment adjustments, using measuring instruments, templates, and fixtures.
  • Develop length, location, and arrangement of electrical/tubing for production mock‑ups or an initial installation of a design change for a production product.
  • Establish and perform all metallic heat‑treat operations to harden, case‑harden, temper, draw, normalize, age, anneal and otherwise heat‑treat metals in accordance with specifications and procedures.
  • Perform functions of all furnaces (Drop Bottom Furnace, Salt Bath, Air Furnace) required to process work assignments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years Shop Peening experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work instructions, and specifications (e.g., BAC standards).
  • Experience working with technical documentation such as product tech sheets and process guidelines.
  • All applicants must be willing and able to work any shift, including alternative work weeks.

Pay & Benefits

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary Pay Range: $24.81 – $41.27.

Kansas Tax Credit
