Job summary

Mission Design & Automation is seeking a Machine Builder to assemble custom automation equipment and collaborate with engineers from concept to completion.

You will operate shop tools, prepare materials, and document progress while taking ownership of your portion of each project. The role offers onsite work in Holland, MI with growth opportunities and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude with safety and quality focus.
  • Own hand tools and toolbox (tool purchase program available).
  • Ability to obtain Hi-Lo, Aerial Platform, and Overhead Crane certifications.
  • Ability to read mechanical part and assembly drawings.
  • Travel up to 20% may be required for customer installations and support.

Position Summary:

We’re looking for a Machine Builder who wants to make an impact.

In this role, you’ll assemble custom automation equipment, collaborate with engineers throughout the build process, and play an important part in bringing each machine from concept to reality. Your work will have a direct impact on the success of every project.

Location:

Full-time, Hourly position onsite in Holland, MI. Standard shop hours are 7am-3:30pm

Compensation & Benefits:

Pay: $20-$25 hourly, based on experience.

What You’ll Do:

As a Machine Builder at Mission Design & Automation, you will:

  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to assemble custom automation equipment using mechanical drawings and project specifications
  • Operate a variety of shop equipment and hand tools safely and effectively
  • Prepare material for secondary purposes such as material finishing and heat treatment
  • Foster a culture of open communication with Build Lead, Project Managers, and other departments on project progress and status
  • Document machine updates and communicate project progress with the team
  • Take ownership of your portion of each project, making decisions and solving challenges independently while collaborating with an experienced team for support
  • Continue developing your skills while taking on increased responsibility, including opportunities to lead machine builds
  • Embrace a versatile approach to problem solving, be open minded to different ways of completing tasks and seize opportunities for continuous learning and skill enhancement
  • Ensure proper processes are followed and documented appropriately by consistently completing Final Ship Checklist and store it in corresponding job folder
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment where every team member can do their best work
What You Bring:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Mechanical aptitude with a strong commitment to safety and quality
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in industrial environments (lift 50lbs as required, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, climbing beneath machines, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain Hi-Lo, Aerial Platform, and Overhead Crane certifications
  • Ability to provide your own hand tools and toolbox (tool purchase program available)
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vocational or technical education
  • Ability to read mechanical part and assembly drawings
  • Experience building industrial equipment, machinery, or automation systems
  • Experience operating common fabrication and machine shop equipment
Travel:

Travel of up to 20% may be required for customer installations and support, including domestic and occasional international travel. Premium pay is provided for travel.
