Kids for the Future is seeking a Medical Assistant with phlebotomy skills to gather clinical data, collect blood samples, and perform CLIA-waived tests in a busy office. The role includes data entry in eClinicalWorks and CareWare, ensuring HIPAA compliance and safe handling of specimens.
Qualified candidates will hold a CCMA, CPT or eligibility, with 11–20 years in a medical setting preferred. Expect responsibilities across immunizations, patient prep, and coordination with providers.

1. Gather clinical data of assigned patients for providers. Document clinical data to include, but not limited to, HPI, medication reconciliation, medical history, family history, social history, vital signs, and preventive medicine.
2. Obtain blood specimens by established venipuncture and capillary techniques (adult and pediatric), as well as urine or other samples as ordered by the clinician.
3. Run routine CLIA-waived in-office tests (e.g., Molecular testing for influenzae, strep, RSV and COVID; urine pregnancy; urine dipstick). Ensure Quality Control is performed and documented. Troubleshoot if QC is out of acceptable range.
4. Process, package, and route specimens to the appropriate laboratory while maintaining specimen integrity by approved laboratory methods.
5. Administer medications, immunizations and therapeutic injections as ordered by the provider while following 340b, DOH and ADAP/PAP guidelines.
6. Assist Provider(s) with office visit examinations, office procedures, referrals, prior authorizations, lab results,
7. Review daily schedule with providers to address patient preventive healthcare maintenance, immunization schedule, potential risk factors and CDSS alerts.
8. Report any significant patient conditions or reactions to medications or procedures immediately to the provider or Clinic Nurse Manager.
9. Ensure safe handling of blood products and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
10. Assist in compliance with OSHA standards and organization policies and procedures for infection control by maintaining a clean and sterile environment, including daily cleaning of the work area, and emptying of biohazard bags.
11. Provide coverage for late clinic as scheduled by Clinic Nurse Manager.
12. Assist in the evaluation of patient encounters regarding coding in the EMR for procedures to optimize billing.
13. Notify patients of lab results, procedure results and referral appointments.
14. Explain ordered procedures or treatments to patients as directed by provider.
15. Conduct investigation into lab receiving or collection discrepancies and report to Clinic Nurse Manager.
16. Report lab equipment or lab deviations to Clinic Nurse Manager, take action to remediate.
17. Collaborate with providers and Clinic Nurse Manager to discuss updates on clinical lab tests and specimen collection.
18. Input patient data, including lab results into eClinicalWorks and Careware.
19. Maintain temperature logs for the refrigerator and freezer for vaccines and medications. Report out of range temperatures to Clinic Nurse Manager.
20. Sanitize and restock supplies used in exam rooms and assist in clinical inventory control.
21. Set up AV equipment for Telemedicine and assist Provider(s) in seeing patients via Telemedicine.
22. Participate in team meetings.
23. Participate in Quality Improvement projects as directed by the Director of Nursing or Clinic Nurse Manager.
24. Maintain active CPR certification.
25. Maintain certifications by successfully completing medically related CEUs.
26. All other responsibilities assigned by Director of Nursing or Clinic Nurse Manager.
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
Basic computer literacy skills including but not limited to EMR, MS, Excel and CAREWare.
Ability to work with patients, significant others, and staff from diverse populations.
Ability to effectively communicate with staff and patients.
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds, sit and stand for extended periods of time.
