Job summary

JE Dunn Construction Company is seeking an M/E Engineer 1, AFG to join our Advanced Facilities Group on national projects. This entry-level role focuses on safety, quality, and hands-on exposure to mechanical and electrical systems on large Industrial & Manufacturing, Data Center, and Semiconductor projects.

You will learn to develop budgets, review options, coordinate scopes, and support bid analysis while building your career alongside diverse professionals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related field is required.
• Equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree.
• 0-2 years construction experience or internship preferred.
• Ability to read & interpret plans, drawings & specs.
• Proficiency in MS Office and basic M/E estimating tools.

Responsibilities

• Participate in safety and quality plans and culture.
• Perform entry level mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities.
• Develop budgetary M/E estimates using the estimating system.
• Review mechanical and electrical options during preconstruction.
• Help develop scopes of work for bids.
• Assist bid analysis and subcontractor selection.
• Contribute to sequencing and schedule feasibility.
• Review design documents to identify constructability issues.
• Support job inspections for quality and timely completion.
• Assist shop drawing/submittal process per contract.
• Assist commissioning with pre-functional checklists and testing.

As part of the Advanced Facilities team, you'll work on some of the most advanced construction projects across the country, growing your career alongside our diverse team of industry professionals.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

M/E ENGINEERING FAMILY – CORE

• Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
• Completes entry level and routine mechanical, electrical and field construction activities.
• Learns how to develop budgetary M/E estimates, based upon program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating system.
• Assists in the review of mechanical and electrical options as part of the preconstruction process and completes systems analysis for select projects.
• Learns to develop the mechanical and electrical scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process.
• Assists in the completion of bid analysis and provides input during the subcontractor selection process.
• Assists in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and providing solutions to meet the schedule requirements.
• Gains knowledge of design documents in order to identify potential quality problems to assist in developing constructability review reports.
• Learns to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
• Learns and assists with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with the contract documents.
• Assists with the commissioning process including developing pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures and actual functional testing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
• Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications.
• Proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
• Knowledge of the means and methods of construction management.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
• In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

• 0-2 years construction experience and/or summer internship/co-op experience in construction (Preferred).
