Job summary

Bushburg Properties Inc. is seeking a Porter to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the property.

This union position is represented by 32BJ SEIU and focuses on common areas, entrances, and facilities for residents, visitors, and staff. Responsibilities include routine cleaning, basic maintenance support, snow and ice removal, restocking supplies, and responding to safety needs while following health, safety, and building regulations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as Porter, Janitor, Custodian, or in a similar cleaning or maintenance role preferred.
• Experience using industrial cleaning equipment and supplies.
• Ability to perform physical tasks throughout the shift, including standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 40+ pounds.
• Ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including snow and cold temperatures.
• Strong stamina and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with building safety and security procedures.
• Effective verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with residents, staff, vendors, and visitors.
• Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and shifts as needed, including during winter weather events.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Reliable, professional, and able to follow directions and company policies.
• Must wear the required company uniform while on duty.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors, carpets, vents, restrooms, and other common areas.
• Keep building entrances, lobbies, and exterior areas clean, clear, and free of clutter.
• Assist with snow and ice removal from building entrances, sidewalks, walkways, and other exterior areas as needed.
• Apply salt, ice melt, or other appropriate materials to help maintain safe walking surfaces during winter weather.
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
• Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as replacing light bulbs.
• Identify and report property damage or maintenance concerns; coordinate with technicians and monitor repairs when needed.
• Maintain an organized inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management when items need to be replenished.
• Place appropriate safety signage for wet floors, wet paint, and other potential hazards.
• Respond promptly to spills, cleaning emergencies, snow/ice conditions, and other urgent property needs.
• Follow all health, safety, and building regulations.
• Follow emergency and evacuation procedures when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with the requirements of the 32BJ SEIU collective bargaining agreement.
