Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a senior Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer to lead structural and dynamic analyses for the Lunar Permanence program, focusing on the reaction control and helium systems. You will work within a fluids and propulsion team to develop reliable, safety-driven solutions for the Blue Moon lander.

The role requires 5+ years of aerospace analysis experience, strong FEA skills (ANSYS), and proficiency in Creo Pro/E. You will contribute to safety improvements and design optimization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years experience in structural/dynamic analysis of pressurized components and systems.
  • Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS) including structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses.
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E and Pro/E Piping module preferred).
  • Experience delivering analysis products with limited oversight in an aerospace setting.
  • Expertise with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics (NASGRO, VCCT, etc).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowables development.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct structural and dynamic analysis of valves, tubing, mounts, COPVs, etc. with limited guidance.
  • Identify opportunities for safety, cost, and weight improvements.
  • Support configuration development and trade studies.
  • Review supplier analyses of COTS valves, supporting qualification efforts.
  • Maintain and report on work tasks, schedule, and technical status.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. This role supports the development of the Blue Moon Mk2 Crew Lander to bring humans to the Moon. As part of a diverse fluids and propulsion team, you will be lead the structural analysis efforts for the reaction control system and/or helium system. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting structural and dynamic analysis of valves, tubing, mounts, COPVs, etc. with limited guidance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the structural and dynamic analysis of pressurized components and systems including valves, tubing/piping, pressure vessels
  • Experience with FEA analysis tools (ANSYS preferred) including structural, dynamic, and thermal analyses
  • Working knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E and Pro/E Piping module preferred)
  • Experience delivering analysis products with limited oversight in an aerospace setting
  • Expertise with fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics (hand calcs, NASGRO, VCCT, etc)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowables development
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the analysis of components involving welding or casting
  • Experience with statistical analysis for preparation of design allowables
  • Experience with one or more of the following analysis codes: Nastran, Ansys (structural, dynamic, thermal, CFD), Abaqus, LS-Dyna, Optistruct
Base Pay Range

For WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
