This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As an MLI Technician at Blue Origin, you will provide hands‑on technical support to engineering, production, and manufacturing teams by performing activities such as assembly, integration, testing, modification, and checkout of aerospace systems and hardware. Working from engineering drawings, schematics, and detailed work instructions, you will build, integrate prototype and production Multi‑Layer Insulation. You will perform fit checks, tests, and assist in remedying machine malfunctions, ensuring all components meet rigorous quality and safety standards. This role requires proficiency using a wide range of manufacturing and testing tools/equipment, attention to detail, handling fragile space components, and a strong commitment to supporting Blue Origin’s mission of safe and reliable spaceflight.

Position Specific Details Shifts: A - Mon‑Thurs (5:00 AM‑3:30 PM) / B - Mon‑Thurs (3:00 PM‑1:30 AM) / C - Fri‑Sun (5:00 AM‑5:30 PM) Location: Melbourne, FL Relocation: Authorized

Key Responsibilities

Assemble and integrate subcomponents and final assemblies of all major structural, mechanical, and avionics systems according to engineering specifications. Configure production work areas with necessary tooling and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and minimize delays during high‑rate manufacturing transitions. Operate precision calibrated tools (e.g., torque wrenches, micrometers) to maintain high safety and quality standards. Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for safety, efficiency, and productivity. Perform operational tests, troubleshooting, and fault isolation to ensure the integrity and reliability of assembled systems. Support the transition from development to production, performing preventative maintenance as needed. Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.

Team Focus & Domain Expertise

The Technician – Assembly & Integration at Blue Origin plays a pivotal role in assembling, integrating, and verifying aerospace components and systems including primary structure, mechanical assemblies. You will collaborate on transforming how our Lunar MLI films are fabricated and integrated, directly impacting the reliability and performance of Lunar Vehicle Systems. Success requires versatility across domains, keen attention to detail, and dedication to safe, repeatable spaceflight.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Levels with aerospace manufacturing, integration, or another related field. (0-3 years Level I Technician, 3+ Level II Technician, 5+ Level III Technician, 8+ Sr Level Technician) Hands‑on experience with fabrication, assembly and spacecraft integration of Fragile MLI films per specifications. Experience using a variety of hand tools including scissors, hollow punches, etc. Skilled in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, and harness wiring diagrams, as well as internal and external dimensions. Proficient in using inspection tools such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges. Basic electrical test (use of DMMs, basic knowledge of voltage/current/resistance) Experience with bonding adhesives, sealants and fasteners. Proficient in using various hand and power tools Experience in handling fragile spacecraft coverings. Familiar with working with and around ESD sensitive components. Acquire necessary certifications and perform related duties with minimal supervision. Capable of lifting 50 lbs and working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces. Basic proficiency in computer usage, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

Industry certification, trade school training, and/or degree in related field. Experience with methods for integrating designs from drawings and schematics to meet product specifications. Demonstrate knowledge of materials and process specifications.

Automation Systems Troubleshooting

The ability to diagnose and resolve faults in an integrated system by interpreting HMI alarms and monitoring PLC‑controlled components.

Industrial Robot Operation

Safely operating, tending, and performing fault recovery on SCARA robots using a teach pendant, including the ability to touch‑up points.

Precision Dispense & Material Handling

Experience managing process‑sensitive systems like metered epoxy dispensers and handling delicate, contamination‑sensitive materials.

Machine Vision & Sensor Familiarity

The ability to work with and perform basic adjustments to vision systems for guidance and inspection, as well as troubleshoot various machine sensors.

Mechatronics Aptitude

A foundational understanding of how mechanical and electrical components work together, enabling basic hands‑on maintenance and diagnostics.

Meticulous Quality & Procedural Discipline

A rigorous, detail‑oriented approach to following complex work instructions and performing in‑process quality checks.
