The Building Center, Inc. is seeking a Yard Specialist in Columbia, SC to manage yard organization, inventory, loading/unloading, and safety compliance.

The role involves operating yard equipment and assisting customers with loading, while coordinating with the operations team to ensure timely movement of goods. Qualified candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, forklift experience preferred, and strong math and reading skills to handle inventory and labeling tasks.

Qualifications

• Forklift experience preferred.
• Able to read and understand simple instructions, memos, and notes.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and unit conversions.
• Capable of following written or oral instructions with minimal supervision.
• Ability to solve routine problems with a few concrete variables.

Responsibilities

• Unload incoming trucks and receive material from vendors.
• Maintain yard organization and inventory accuracy.
• Assist in preparing shipments with proper labeling.
• Follow safety protocols and keep yard clean and safe.
• Assist walk-in customers with loading of vehicles.
• Conduct forklift pre-shift checks and report issues.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
