Job summary

Brandon Lumber Company is seeking a Yard Associate to assist customers in the Brandon yard and over the phone. You will read blueprints, bid materials, cut lumber to size, and load orders into customers' vehicles. A forklift may be required, and lifting 80 pounds unassisted is necessary.

Hours are typically 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with weekends off; prior yard or construction experience is helpful for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Must read and bid building materials from blueprints provided by customers.
• Lift 80 pounds or more unassisted.
• Clean driving record, drug testing & background check required.
• Plan estimating and bidding experience is preferred.
• Lumber and building material knowledge is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers in the yard and over the phone.
• Operate saws and cut lumber to size for customers.
• Read and bid materials from blueprints.
• Load materials into customers' vehicles or trailers.
• Unload trucks and operate a forklift as needed.
• Prepare material takeoffs and estimates for construction projects.
• Place orders with vendors and verify order acknowledgements.
• Grow sales through relationship management.

Job description

Role and Responsibilities

1. Assist customers in the yard and over the phone
2. Ability to operate saws and cut lumber to size for customers
3. Read and bid building materials such as lumber, siding, windows, doors, and steel off of blueprints provided by customers.
4. Work in outdoor conditions to help load materials into customers vehicles or trailers.
5. MUST be able to lift 80 pounds or more unassisted
6. Take yearend inventory and stock shelves
7. Assist unloading trucks if necessary and operate a forklift
8. Ability to perform mathematical calculations
9. Ability to carry out written and oral instructions
10. Consult with contractors and customers on building plans and projects
11. Prepare material takeoffs and estimates in a timely matter to be used in construction projects, with or without blueprints
12. Place orders with vendors and verify the accuracy of order acknowledgements
13. Grow sales through relationship management

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• High School Diploma is required
• 2 or 4 year degree in construction or experience is required
• Clean driving record, drug testing & background check is required
• Plan estimating and bidding required
• Lumber and building material knowledge is preferred

Additional Notes

Monday through Friday hours is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Closed all major holidays – New Years Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving & Christmas Day.
