Job summary

City of Killeen is seeking a maintenance technician to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on light duty vehicles and other fleet equipment. A high school diploma and one year of related experience are required, with a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities include oil changes, brake inspections, battery replacement, tire mounting and balancing, road-call support, and updating work orders in the maintenance system.

  • Drain motor oil, change oil filters, grease chassis fittings, inspect brakes and top off fluids.
  • Test charging systems and replace batteries as needed.
  • Operate hand, electric, and air-driven tools.
  • Inspect engines and transmissions; maintain hydraulic systems and components.
  • Mount, balance, and install tires; adjust tire pressure and rotations.
  • Provide road-call assistance for disabled equipment.
  • Enter work orders and record parts used and hours worked in the maintenance program.

CITY OF KILLEEN POSITION DESCRIPTION

Performs maintenance and repair work on vehicles and mechanical equipment serviced by the Fleet Services Division.

The employee will have the responsibility of:
  • Completingandevaluatingpreventivemaintenanceforalllightdutyvehicles, backhoes, refuse, trucks, excavators, loaders, dump trucks and other City owned rolling stock
  • Draining motor oil, changing oil filters, greasing chassis fittings, inspecting brakes and tops off fluids, coolant filters/flushes
  • Performing charging systems test and replacing batteries as needed
  • Operating a variety of hand, electric, and air-driven tools
  • Inspecting, servicing, and maintaining engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other components to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment
  • Mounting,balancing,andinstallingtiresand wheels. Adjusting tire pressure/tire rotations
  • Providing road-call assistance to disabled equipment as needed and appropriate
  • Entering work order updates and progress in a computer-based maintenance program; recording of maintenance and repair work, including parts used and hours worked
The work environment will require the employee to:
  • Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Highschooldiplomaorequivalent; and
  • One(1)yearrelatedexperience; or
Special Requirements:
  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license within ninety (90) days of hire
