Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling in New Castle, IN seeks a dependable Fleet Maintenance Technician to service and repair diesel-powered fleet vehicles. You will perform preventive maintenance, inspect systems, and assist senior technicians while adhering to safety policies.

Applicants should have 1–2 years of repair experience and basic mechanical aptitude, with the ability to read manuals. Light lifting and outdoor work are routine, with possible night/weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • Requires 1–2 years of repair/maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Experience with diesel-powered vehicles preferred.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of truck components/systems.
  • Knowledge of Lock/Tag Out procedures or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner and in compliance with regulations.
  • Inspect, lubricate, and service fleet vehicles per maintenance schedules.
  • Check and change fluids and filters as needed.
  • Inspect electrical, air, brake systems; perform minor repairs.
  • Assist senior technicians with repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain records of time, orders, and parts usage.

Responsibilities of Position
  • Perform preventive maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Inspect, lubricate, and service all fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules
  • Grease, oil and lubricate components during preventive maintenance service
  • Check, fill, and/or change appropriate fluids and filters for all fleet vehicles
  • Inspect vehicle support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments to various operating systems on the vehicles, equipment, or related components
  • Assist senior experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments
  • Identify and repair or report worn or failed components, leaks, etc.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties related tools, materials, shop, and work areas
  • Perform required administrative duties when necessary, such as cycle counts, parts requisitions, warranties, etc.
  • Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order
  • Assist in other areas of the vehicle maintenance shop as needed
  • Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders and parts usage) on computer/tablet
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position will not manage employees
Skills & Abilities Needed for Position
  • Attention to detail and ability to stay organized
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals, diagrams, etc.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
  • Ability to complete necessary paperwork (hard copies or electronically)
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training
  • Must possess necessary tools to perform assigned tasks
Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position
  • 1-2 years performing repair and maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and related components is preferred
  • Experience with diesel powered vehicles preferred
  • Good mechanical aptitude with basic knowledge of truck components and systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of Lock/Tag Out procedures or the ability the learn those procedures
Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday
  • Frequently lifting/carrying a max of 20 lbs
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying a max of 75 lbs
  • Rarely lifting/carrying a max of 100 lbs
  • Frequently pushing/pulling a max of 50 lbs
  • Rarely pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
  • Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
  • Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
  • Frequently stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
  • Occasionally climbing and/or balancing
  • Rarely sitting; continuously standing/walking
Additional Working Conditions/Aspects
  • Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Ability to travel between offices, as required
  • Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Valid driver's license (if applicable)
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
