Job summary

Sun Auto Tire & Service in Missouri is seeking an entry-level Lube and Tire Technician to join our hands-on shop team. You will perform oil changes, tire services, basic maintenance, and Digital Vehicle Inspections while learning from experienced technicians and store leaders.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role suitable for mechanically inclined individuals.
• Willingness to learn basic automotive maintenance and repair processes.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Preference for high school diploma or equivalent or vocational training.

Responsibilities

• Perform tire services including mounting, dismounting, balancing, and rotations.
• Perform oil changes and basic maintenance (fluids, wipers, bulbs, batteries, filters).
• Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections and document repair orders accurately.
• Identify safety-related issues and communicate findings to the team.
• Conduct State Safety and Emission Inspections where applicable.
• Keep shop and customer areas clean and ready.
• Transport customers and pick up parts or tires as directed.
• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.

What You’ll Do

• Perform tire services, including mounting, dismounting, balancing, and rotations.
• Perform oil changes and basic maintenance, including fluids, wipers, bulbs, batteries, and air and cabin filters.
• Complete Digital Vehicle Inspections and repair order documentation accurately and thoroughly.
• Identify safety‑related issues and communicate findings through the proper store channels.
• Conduct State Safety and Emission Inspections, where applicable, in an ethical manner and in line with all company and state guidelines under appropriate supervision.
• Keep customer vehicles, the shop, service area, showroom, restrooms, and outside areas clean and customer‑ready.
• Transport customers and pick up parts, tires, and supplies using company or customer vehicles as directed.
• Follow all safety procedures, use required PPE, comply with environmental and hazardous waste requirements, and report hazards or unsafe equipment to your supervisor.
• Work collaboratively with technicians and service advisors, accept coaching, and participate in ongoing training and development.
• Work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed, and complete other duties as assigned.

• Strong interest or desire to work in the automotive repair industry.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn basic automotive maintenance and repair processes.
• Ability to follow written procedures, safety standards, and store processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with technicians, service advisors, and store leaders.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends as needed.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Vocational or technical training school.
• General knowledge of under-hood, mechanical, and undercarriage assemblies.
• Previous shop, lube technician, tire technician, mechanical, customer service, or other hands‑on work experience.
• State Inspector License, in applicable locations, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire if required by the store.

This role is an important first step in the back‑of‑house technical career path. Lube and Tire Technicians strengthen hands‑on maintenance, inspection, documentation, safety, and shop operations skills while learning from more experienced technicians. This experience can support growth toward more advanced technical positions.

Your path could look like: Lube and Tire Technician → Junior Technician → Automotive Technician → Senior Technician → Lead Technician → and beyond into technical training or field leadership.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Automotive shop environment with exposure to moderate to loud noise, dust, exhaust fumes, lubricants, petroleum products, vapors, and caustic materials.
• Temperature variations may include extreme heat and/or extreme cold.
• Ability to stand up to eight hours per day and walk to access various areas of the building.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch regularly, with full range of motion in arms and hands.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and up to 70 pounds frequently.
• Vision sufficient to detect color, depth, and refocus; use of safety goggles or other PPE as required.
• Ability to communicate with customers, service advisors, managers, and shop teammates.
