Job summary

Volunteers of America Oregon is seeking a Temporary Facilities Technician to join our Facilities team and support maintenance, repairs, remodels, and facility improvements across Portland-area locations.

Starting wage is $22.43–$30.27 per hour, placed at Technician I–III based on experience. This limited-term assignment may lead to future opportunities, with on-site collaboration and safety-focused work.

  • Troubleshoot plumbing, electrical, and equipment issues.
  • Support preventative maintenance and site cleanup.
  • Work with contractors and VOA Oregon Facilities team.

Job description

Volunteers of America Oregon is seeking a Temporary Facilities Technician to join our Facilities team and provide additional hands-on support during a period of active projects and increased maintenance needs across our Portland-area facilities.Starting Wage: $22.43 – $30.27 per hour, depending on level placement and experienceThis is a temporary, limited-term, project-based position. Placement as a Facilities Technician I, II, or III will be based on your experience, technical knowledge, and demonstrated skill level.While this position is not guaranteed to continue beyond the limited-term assignment, a permanent Facilities Technician opportunity may become available at or near the conclusion of the project, and the selected employee may have the opportunity to apply for available permanent positions.What You'll DoThis is a hands-on role supporting maintenance, repair, remodeling, and facility improvement projects across Volunteers of America Oregon locations. Depending on your experience and skill level, your work may include:General building maintenance and repairsCarpentry, drywall, painting, and finish workPlumbing and fixture repairs or installationBasic electrical and building-system work within your demonstrated skill levelAppliance and equipment troubleshooting and repairPreventative maintenanceLandscaping and exterior maintenanceRemodeling, construction, relocation, and facility improvement projectsWorking alongside contractors, vendors, and other Facilities team membersIdentifying maintenance needs and helping troubleshoot effective solutionsMaintaining safe, clean, and organized work areasTechnician II and III employees may also provide onsite guidance or technical direction to other Facilities team members based on project needs.Who We're Looking ForWe are open to candidates with a range of experience. You do not need to meet the qualifications of our highest technician level to apply.Technician I: You have general knowledge or experience in maintenance, construction, landscaping, repair work, or a related trade. You are comfortable using common hand and power tools and are interested in continuing to develop your skills.Technician II: You bring approximately three or more years of building maintenance or related experience, with demonstrated skills in areas such as carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, appliance repair, and use of hand and power tools.Technician III: You bring approximately five or more years of broad building maintenance experience and advanced troubleshooting and repair skills across multiple building systems, which may include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, appliances, and commercial equipment. Experience serving as a project or crew lead is also valuable at this level.Regardless of level, we're looking for someone who can work independently and as part of a team, solve problems, adapt to changing priorities, communicate professionally, and take pride in completing quality work safely and efficiently.Additional RequirementsCandidates must be able to:Successfully complete required pre-employment screenings, including a criminal history background check.Meet applicable OIG and SAM exclusion requirements.Be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.Travel locally between VOA Oregon facilities throughout the Portland metropolitan area.
