Job summary

GRMC Garrett Regional Medical Center seeks an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct inpatient nursing care and support the physician team. The role requires active LPN licensure in the service state or via eNLC, with BLS within 30 days of hire and compliance with background checks.

You will collaborate with RNs and therapists, perform therapeutic procedures, document care, and assist in patient education and plan-of-care development.

Qualifications

  • Current licensed practical nurse license in the state of service or eNLC.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
  • State and federal background checks as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care per plan of care; consult RN/Respiratory Therapist as needed.
  • Perform designated therapeutic procedures.
  • Observe and report patient concerns promptly.
  • Assist physicians with examinations/procedures as assigned.
  • Contribute to nursing assessment with data collection and reporting.
  • Monitor patient condition and report deviations to the team.
  • Participate in plan-of-care development with priorities.
  • Educate patients and families per teaching plan and assist in rehab.
  • Document nursing interventions and responses to care.
  • Administer medications (IM, subcutaneous, IV, oral, neb/MDI) as assigned.
  • Seek guidance from overseeing role when implementing nursing techniques.

Provides nursing support to the physician and provides direct nursing care to patients in an inpatient setting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

  1. Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  3. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. One (1) year clinical experience.

  1. Provides direct patient care, as outlined in the patient’s plan of care and/or as directed by the overseeing role , to promote comfort and/or return to functional health for the patient. Consults with the Registered Nurse or Respiratory Therapist to seek guidance in delivery of nursing care, as necessary.
  2. Performs designated therapeutic procedures to assigned patients as needed.
  3. Accurately observes, records and reports to the overseeing role, all patient concerns, symptoms, reactions and progress in a timely manner.
  4. Assists physicians and the overseeing role with examinations and procedures, as assigned.
  5. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting and recording objective and subjective data.
  6. Observes the condition or change in condition of the patient, records signs and symptoms of deviation from normal health status and reports findings to the overseeing role.
  7. Participates in the development of the patient’s plan of care by providing data, contributing to the identification of priorities and assisting in the identification of measures to maintain comfort and support human functions and responses.
  8. Assists in assigned patient and family education and rehabilitation by reviewing patient needs with the overseeing role and following the teaching plan.
  9. Documents nursing interventions and responses to care, communicating to appropriate members of the health care team.
  10. Accurately and safely administers intramuscular, subcutaneous, IV, oral, nebulization and/or MDI delivered medications as assigned.
  11. Obtains instruction and supervision as necessary from the overseeing role when implementing nursing technique or practices.

For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:

  1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

  1. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking; carrying of patients, materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs. This is performed on a daily basis.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Must be skilled with computer systems used by both physician offices and hospitals to capture data accurately and consistently.
  4. Ability to function as a team member in respect to organization, communication, and task prioritization. Must also be able to work weekends, holidays and all shifts.
