Job summary

The Orchards is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide direct nursing care in a skilled nursing setting. The role includes medication administration, supervision of CNAs, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.

Ideal candidates hold an accredited LPN credential, CPR/First Aid, and prefer experience in geriatric or long-term care. This PRN position offers flexible scheduling to fit your availability and commitments.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Minimum of six months of geriatric or long-term care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administer medications, treatments, and controlled substances as prescribed by physicians and according to facility policies.
  • Supervise and provide direction to CNAs, reporting performance concerns to the Charge Nurse.
  • Monitor resident conditions and promptly report changes to the Charge Nurse.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident care, medications, treatments, and incidents.
  • Participate in shift report, including admissions, discharges, transfers, resident status changes, and new orders.
  • Advocate for resident rights and maintain effective communication with residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Respond immediately to allegations or incidents of abuse and follow facility reporting procedures.
  • Maintain a safe and comfortable environment through proper use of safety equipment and infection prevention practices.
  • Attend required in-services, meetings, and ongoing training.

Job description

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents in a skilled nursing setting while maintaining a safe, abuse-free environment. The LPN administers medications and treatments, supervises Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), monitors resident conditions, and ensures compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience caring for residents with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other specialized needs is preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate resident lift equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements throughout the shift.
  • Ability to regularly push medication carts and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or assist with moving up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain visual acuity for medication administration, resident assessment, and documentation.

This position is performed in a skilled nursing environment with frequent exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, cleaning products, and medical equipment. Noise levels may vary from quiet resident rooms to busy nursing stations and common areas.
