Job summary

LPN - Overnight | St. Joseph Institute for Addiction | Port Matilda, Pennsylvania

About the Job

The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse, participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department and the parameters of the licensing board. The nurse communicates and works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team (medical staff, administration, clinicians, dietitians, and milieu personnel) to maintain high client safety standards and a therapeutic environment. This position is onsite at the facility and is not remote.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of clients under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, while always maintaining client safety and following unit and facility policies.
  • Assists in health and psychiatric teaching for client and family and serves as a role model for clients and peers.
  • Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
  • Communicates effectively with medical staff, receives orders, and minimizes errors; participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge and information.
  • Prepares, administers, controls, and accurately records medications in accordance with policy, documenting administration effects and adverse effects.
  • Observes, documents, and reports clinical, physical, or personnel issues to the R.N. in charge, and informs registered nurses and doctors of status changes and concerns.
  • Consults, follows, and documents nursing care per facility policy, recording client symptoms, responses, and progress accurately.
  • Safely and accurately performs vital signs, electrocardiograms, phlebotomy/labs, and glucose monitoring, interpreting results and taking appropriate action.
  • Provides coverage in emergency services as needed.
Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an approved Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing Program.
  • One or more years of nursing experience in a clinical area similar to services provided by the facility is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with psychotropic medications and medication administration procedures.
  • Ability to apply nursing standards within a recovery setting.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid current registered practical/vocational nursing license from the state or a nurse‑compact state if applicable.
  • CPR certification and de‑escalation training required (training available upon hire and provided by the facility).
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
