Carilion Clinic is seeking an LPN for outpatient vascular surgery with a flexible schedule in Roanoke, VA. The role covers nursing care, assessments, patient prep, tele-retinal/tele-dermatology coordination, medication administration, and EMR documentation.

Licensure as a Virginia LPN and BLS-HCP certification are required, with one year of physician office experience preferred. The position involves on-site duties and collaboration with the vascular care team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program and eligible to sit for Virginia licensure.
• One year of physician office experience preferred.
• Current Virginia LPN licensure; Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology; BLS-HCP certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care for patients of all ages.
• Completes patient assessment including vitals, chief complaint, and medications.
• Prepares patient for provider evaluation and assists during exams and procedures.
• Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic setup.
• Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.
• Maintains exam, treatment, x-ray rooms, and lab; restocks supplies and sterilizes equipment.
• Documents patient information in the EMR; updates treatments, refills, and test results.
• Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities.
• Provides patient teaching on lab results, diet, medications, and follow-up.
• Assists with referral authorizations and pre-authorizations for testing and services.
• Assists with lab procedures including phlebotomy and specimen handling.
• Observes safety protocols and proper disposal of waste.

How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

• Provides nursing care for patients of all ages.
• Completes patient assessment to include height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc.
• Prepares patient for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic set up.
• Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.
• Maintains work area, exam, treatment and x-ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restock with supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed.
• Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner to include update treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc.
• Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities.
• Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcing provider instructions as needed.
• Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services.
• Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID.
• Observes all safety precautions and standards; assures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste.

LAB (if applicable)

• Performs lab procedures as directed by the provider including phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conduct lab testing onsite after appropriate training, including waived and moderate complexity studies.
• Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Runs daily quality control tests as directed by lead clinical/lab staff.
• Adheres to quality control measures with all lab procedures, performing proficiency testing and conducting control testing and calibration on all equipment. Maintains Q/A Plan. Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Runs daily quality control test as directed by the clinical/lab staff.

RADIOLOGY (if applicable)

• Performs x-ray procedures as directed by the provider. Takes measures to prevent excessive exposure to patient and self. Completes all documentation and labeling of x-rays.
• Performs any other tasks relating to the operation of the practice that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.

Experience: One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required. Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology. Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required.

Other: Customer driven. Demonstrates a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and a professional appearance and approach. Must have the ability to problem-solve and communicate with a wide variety of people in an effective manner. Must exhibit skills to utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records. Keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.

Compensation Range:

$21.61 - $30.25

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
