Qualifications

Complies with all federal, state, local, Carilion Clinic, and departmental policies and standards as applicable. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.* Provides nursing care for patients of all ages.* Completes patient assessment to include height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc.* Prepares patient for provider evaluation, including obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.* Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic set up.* Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider.* Maintains work area, exam, treatment and x-ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restock with supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed.* Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner to include update treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc.* Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities.* Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcing provider instructions as needed.* Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services.* Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID.* Observes all safety precautions and standards; assures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste.* **LAB** (if applicable)* Performs lab procedures as directed by the provider including phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conduct lab testing onsite after appropriate training, including waived and moderate complexity studies.* Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Runs daily quality control tests as directed by lead clinical/lab staff.* Adheres to quality control measures with all lab procedures, performing proficiency testing and conducting control testing and calibration on all equipment. Maintains Q/A Plan. Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Takes measures to prevent excessive exposure to patient and self. Completes all documentation and labeling of x-rays.* Performs any other tasks relating to the operation of the practice that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided.# **What We Require:****Education**: Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam. **Experience**: One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred. **Licensure/Certification**: Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required. Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology. Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required. **Other**: Customer driven. Demonstrates a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and a professional appearance and approach. Must have the ability to problem-solve and communicate with a wide variety of people in an effective manner.
