Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • Current LPN license in NM or out-of-state compact/multistate license.
  • Current BLS certification; ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic cardiac rhythm knowledge for telemetry areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under RN supervision within LPN scope.
  • Assist with implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care plans.
  • Administer medications and therapies as prescribed and allowed by policy.
  • Monitor patient conditions and communicate changes promptly to the team.
  • Assist with activities of daily living and rehabilitation goals.
  • Support post-operative orthopedic patients through education and recovery monitoring.
  • Document care activities in the EHR accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers and providers to ensure coordinated care.

Summary:

Presbyterian Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Orthopedic Unit. In this role, you will work collaboratively with Registered Nurses, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional care to patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, musculoskeletal injuries, and related medical conditions.

The LPN in the Ortho unit will provide direct patient care in the acute care setting of the emergency department or inpatient area utilizing various nursing skills and established standards of care at the direction of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and within the scope of LPN practice.
  • Assist with the implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care plans.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies as prescribed and authorized by state regulations and organizational policy.
  • Monitor patient conditions and promptly communicate changes to the healthcare team.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, mobility, and rehabilitation goals.
  • Support post-operative orthopedic patients through education, comfort measures, and recovery monitoring.
  • Perform wound care and dressing changes as directed.
  • Document patient care activities accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, and providers to ensure coordinated care.
  • Maintain compliance with patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of New Mexico or out of state compact/multistate LPN
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. ACLS required within 6 months of hire
  • Basic cardiac arrythmia (BCA) for areas with cardiac tele monitoring
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Preferred
  • One (1) year of nursing experience in orthopedic, medical-surgical, rehabilitation, or acute care settings preferred.
  • Experience caring for post-operative surgical patients.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic procedures, fracture care, and joint replacement recovery.
  • Experience utilizing electronic health record systems preferred.
