• Postsecondary certificate from vocational school or associate degree in nursing required.

Responsibilities

• Administers medications or starts intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on patients’ charts.
• Observes patients, charting changes in conditions and reports them.
• Answers patients’ calls and determines how to assist them.
• Measures and records patients’ vital signs.
• Provides basic patient care such as taking vitals, dressing wounds, or catheterizations.
• Works with health care team to assess needs and modify care.
• Evaluates outcomes and consults with team.
• Assembles and uses equipment such as catheters or oxygen supplies.
• Records food and fluid intake and output.
