Job summary

Universal Health Services in Riverside, CA is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse to support multiple clinical offices based on operational needs. You will assist in patient examinations and treatments, take vital signs, document charges and medical histories, and help with minor procedures.

You will educate patients, communicate clearly with the care team, and adhere to infection control and aseptic techniques. A California LVN license, BLS, and IV certification are required; ACLS preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current California LVN licensure.
  • Graduate of accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing.
  • Two years’ experience preferred in a multi-specialty group.
  • Current AHA BLS for Healthcare Professionals; IV Certification required.
  • ACLS Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cooperates in cross training for office coverage and roles.
  • Interview patients; record vital signs and chart information.
  • Prepare exam room; assist physician and sterilize equipment.
  • Explain procedures to gain patient cooperation and understanding.
  • Administer medications orally or by injection and document.
  • Perform routine lab tests under supervision.
  • Initiate and manage IV lines under physician direction.
  • Perform EKG, pulse oximetry and related procedures.
  • Travel between departments for coverage and stock supplies.
  • Operate within LVN scope and clinic policies.
  • Discard expired samples and supplies as required.
  • Maintain current California LVN licensure and BLS.

Summary

Responsible for covering clinical offices based on operational need. Assists in the examination and treatment of patients, take vital signs, record patient charges, record patient history, assist in minor office procedures. Participate in patient education, communicating effectively with others and functioning in the scope of practice. Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.

Hours

Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:30PM

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Current California licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Graduate of accredited school of Licensed Vocational Nursing. Two years’ experience preferred working as an LVN in a multi-specialty group setting.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Current California LVN License, Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association Certification and IV Certification required. Current ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association preferred.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are those tasks, duties and responsibilities that comprise the means of accomplishing the job’s purpose and objectives. Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. Note: (other duties may be assigned, deleted or changed at any time, at the discretion of management, formally, or informally, either verbally or in writing).

  1. Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times for all offices.
  2. Interview patients; measure vital signs, pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height; record information on patient’s chart.
  3. Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination room and sterilize appropriate equipment after use.
  4. Explain procedures and treatments to patients and their family in order to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.
  5. Administer prescribed medication orally or by injection (subcutaneous, intramuscularly, intradermal) and document time, dosage, and route on the patient’s chart. Observe patient and report any adverse reactions.
  6. Administer treatments, and perform routine laboratory tests under supervision of a Physician, Allied Health Professional, or an RN.
  7. Initiate intravenous lines, add plain IV fluids to existing lines, and discontinue lines under the direction of the Physician or an Allied Health Professional (must be IV certified).
  8. Perform electrocardiograph (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other equipment as certified.
  9. Travels between departments and facilities on an as-needed basis based on coverage requirements. Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed.
  10. Functions in the LVN scope of practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
  11. Responsible for ensuring all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
  12. Maintains current California LVN licensure and BLS certificate.
