JOB SUMMARY

Continuously responsible for providing professional nursing service (according to qualifications and training) and non-professional services as directed. Directly responsible for performing patient care functions according to established standards, policies, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide clinical and administrative support under the direction of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Nursing Supervisors.
  • Effectively use the nursing process in the delivery of patient care through data gathering, planning, and evaluation.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with all patients, guests, family members and co-workers to ensure a quality patient experience.
  • Works collaboratively with the providers within the team setting to facilitate quality care for the patient.
  • Assist providers with patient assessment, examination, and treatments.
  • Adapt to rapid change in a positive manner throughout the day as the needs of the clinic change.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by sterilizing equipment, reporting unsafe/hazardous conditions, and defective equipment.
  • Adheres to all clinic infection control, hazardous waste, and pharmacy protocols.
  • Maintain a well-stocked patient care area. Notify appropriate departments to replenish stock as necessary.
  • Document patient care, observation, and activities according to professional standards and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the organization.
  • Respond to patient inquiries via telephone or in person.
  • Follow up with patients on lab results, including scheduling of any additional tests.
  • Maintain required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training, and credentials.
  • Comply with organizational and departmental established policies and procedures.
  • Attend required organizational educational in-service meeting and departmental functions.
  • Float to other clinics as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of practical nursing or vocational nursing is required.

Certification(s): An active and unrestricted license to practice in the state of Louisiana as a Licensed Practical Nurse is required. BLS certification is required.

Work Experience: Desired, but not required.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time at a desk and working on a computer
  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, and fingers to provide patient care and operate a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment
  • Frequently move about the clinic and facility to access various departments and patient care areas.
  • Frequently position self, such as bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, or twisting to retrieve and maintain equipment, assist patients, provide patient care, etc.
  • Ability to communicate information accurately so others will understand
  • Ability to hear and respond to telephone calls, alarms, and normal office conversations
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read medication labels, printed documents, computer screens, and handwritten materials
  • Frequently move, lift, push, or pull etc. items such as wheelchairs, boxes, equipment, patients, etc. weighing up to 50 pounds for various needs.

Has exposure to blood borne pathogens.
