Job summary

Mission Hospital, part of Mission Health and an operating division of HCA Healthcare, is seeking an LPN extern to join our nursing team in Asheville, North Carolina. You will grow your hands-on care skills while delivering safe, compassionate patient care as you advance in your LPN program.

Responsibilities include assisting with ADLs, monitoring vitals, wound care as skills develop, documenting changes, and educating patients and families about care plans.

Qualifications

• Applicants must have Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of start date.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification within 90 days of start date.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential.
• Currently enrolled in an LPN program.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ADLs and monitor vital signs.
• Support patient mobility, comfort and safe environment.
• Document observations and communicate updates to the nursing team.
• Educate patients and families about care plans and recovery steps.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment and respond to patient needs promptly.

Job Summary And Qualifications

As an LPN-LVN Extern, you will be a valued part of the nursing team, using your growing skills and hands‑on care to help deliver safe, compassionate patient care. As you advance in your LPN‑LVN program and build your expertise, you’ll have opportunities to take on more complex procedures and make an even greater impact on patients’ lives.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assisting patients with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), monitoring vital signs, and supporting patient mobility and comfort
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter management, and non-medicated procedures as your skills develop
• Documenting patient information, observations and changes, and communicating important updates promptly to the nursing team
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and preparing them for recovery through clear, compassionate education
• Maintaining a clean, safe patient environment by following safety protocols, managing equipment, and responding quickly to patient needs

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• (CNA) Certified Nursing Assistant
• Enrolled in LPN program
