Job summary

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate LPN to join our Emergency Services nursing team at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. The ER is a Level 1 Trauma Center and STEMI/Stroke center, collaborating with pediatric transport and helicopter services.

The on-site, full-time position supports high-acuity care with rotating holidays and weekends, offering growth within a premier academic health system.

Qualifications

• Missouri Board of Nursing LPN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state LPN.
• LPN IV Therapy board certification.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients to record medical history and measure vital signs.
• Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
• Observe and report changes in patient conditions and ensure timely chart updates.
• Under RN direction, manage patient care and collaborate with the care team.
• Follow safety, infection control, and department policies to protect patients and staff.
• Maintain nursing care standards aligned with MU Health Care Mission and Goals.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and quality improvement activities.
• Perform patient care duties as directed by the RN and department guidelines.

Job description

Shift: Full Time Days (6:45a-7:15p), 3 12s/Week, every other weekend and rotating holidays

Work Arrangement: On-site
Department: Emergency Services (may float between ER, ER Observation, Pediatrics ER)

Facility: University Hospital – 1 Hospital Dr, Columbia, MO
Compensation:

• Base Pay Range: $23.25 - $36.33 per hour, based on experience
• Additional $3.00 per hour for weekend shift
• Retention Rewards: Up to $15,000
• Relocation Support: Additional $5,000 if moving from over 50 miles away
• Retention Reward (Option 1): $2,000 per year for up to 5 years, totaling $10,000
• Student Loan Repayment (Option 2): $2,000 per year toward student loans, up to 5 years, totaling $10,000

MU Health Care is looking for a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our nursing team in Emergency Services as an LPN. Our ER is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in central Missouri as well as a Level 1 STEMI Center for heart attacks and a Comprehensive Stroke Center, handling high acuity cases, including burns. Our ER works closely with our children’s hospital critical care transport team and a helicopter service. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

• Interview patients to record their medical history. Measure and record patient vital signs, such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
• Prepare patient for examinations, tests, or treatments and explain procedures.
• Observe, chart, monitor, and report changes in patient conditions including reactions to medications and treatments. Verify that patient charts are updated promptly and accurately.
• Under the direction and plan of an RN, manage patient care according to patient needs. Provide quality care to patients and work with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
• Follow all safety, security, and infection control policies and procedures. Perform all tasks to ensure the safety of self, patient, and co-workers.
• Maintain the standards of nursing care and departmental criteria to assure they are aligned with the MU Health Care Mission and Goals.
• Participate in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups.
• Perform patient care duties and procedures following department policy, established protocol and standard of care, or as directed by the assigned RN.
• May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Missouri Board of Nursing LPN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state LPN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state LPNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
• LPN IV Therapy board certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.
This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
