Job summary

Brattleboro Comprehensive Treatment Center, part of Acadia Healthcare, is seeking a Dispensing Nurse (LPN or RN) for a part-time/PRN role in Vermont. Work schedule features early mornings and mornings-only shifts, with a focus on medication dispensing in an outpatient MAT program.

Responsibilities include medication administration, patient progress documentation, vitals monitoring, and collaboration with the clinical team. Prior addiction treatment experience is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (LPN).
  • Current Vermont LPN license and CPR certification are required.
  • Experience in behavioral health or outpatient treatment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications as directed by Medical Director or Physician.
  • Accurately document patient care and progress.
  • Monitor vitals and support patients through treatment plans.
  • Ensure medication handling complies with DEA/FDA guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate medication inventory and record-keeping.
  • Perform urine/blood sample collection and processing as needed.
  • Collaborate with clinical team to ensure safe, effective treatment.
  • Support mobile unit operations or transport medication as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Part-time Hours: (Yes — early mornings and early afternoons off!)

What You’ll Do


As a Dispensing Nurse (LPN or RN), you’ll play a key role in supporting patients through their treatment journey. Your work will include:


Daily Responsibilities


  • Administer medications as ordered by our Medical Director or Program Physician

  • Document patient care and progress accurately and promptly

  • Monitor vitals, conduct intake assessments, and support patients through their treatment plans

  • Ensure all medication is accounted for and handled according to DEA/FDA guidelines

  • Maintain accurate inventory of medication—your attention to detail matters

  • Perform and process urine/blood samples and review results

  • Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure safe, effective treatment

  • Occasionally support mobile unit operations or transport medication, depending on clinic needs

  • Other duties as assigned


(About 90% of your time will be spent on medication administration.


Pay Range (Vermont)


LPN: $26.06 – $31.95/hour RN: $32.30 – $40.38/hour Compensation varies with experience, skillset, and location.

Qualifications

Your Education, Skills and Qualifications:



  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (LPN)

  • Prefer 1 year of nursing experience in behavioral health, outpatient treatment program, or addiction recovery field.

  • Training or experience treating patients in an outpatient treatment program, preferred.

  • Ability to operate, monitor, and maintain medical equipment safely and effectively.

  • Skilled in drawing blood and collecting other specimens for laboratory testing.

  • Proficient in EMR systems and related clinical software applications.

  • Competent in patient assessment, including evaluating medical histories, symptoms, and overall condition.

  • Ability to monitor and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and blood pressure accurately and consistently.

  • Ability to administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician in accordance with clinic protocols.

  • Ability to observe and document patient responses, side effects, and treatment outcomes to ensure safe and effective care.


Preferred Experience:



  • Previous nursing experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings, such as outpatient, residential, or correctional facilities, is highly preferred but not required.

  • Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), including the safe handling, administration, and documentation of methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone.

  • Experience in medication dispensing, monitoring patient dosing, and observing for adverse reactions or medication interactions.

  • Understanding of nursing best practices related to substance use treatment, including trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.

  • Accurate and timely documentation of medication administration records (MARs), patient vitals, and incident reports in accordance with state and federal guidelines.

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., DEA, 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, and Joint Commission standards) related to controlled substances and patient care.

  • Proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, counselors, case managers, and support staff, to ensure coordinated, patient‑centered care.


Licenses/Certifications:



  • Current LPNlicense in the state of Vermont

  • Current CPR certification where required by state regulation.
