Job summary

The MetroHealth System is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct nursing care for inmates in a county correctional facility. Works under supervision of an RN or physician, handling adolescent through adult patients with complex medical and behavioral health needs.

The role emphasizes compassionate, culturally competent care, documentation, and adherence to safety and security protocols. Requires Ohio LPN license, BLS, and IV therapy certification; prior in-patient experience

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved School of Practical Nursing.
• Currently licensed as LPN by the Ohio Board of Nursing, including med pass certification and IV therapy coursework.
• Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to inmates/patients under supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders.
• Collaborate with physicians and RNs to manage complex medical and behavioral health needs.

Shift: 645a-715pm, 12-hour shifts, every other weekend, holidays

Summary

Assumes responsibilities for direct nursing care of assigned inmates/patients, adolescent through adult, under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician in a correctional facility which may house1,300-2,000 inmate/patients. Serves an underserved, high-need population experiencing mental health issues, substance use disorders and complex medical needs. Provides nursing services to patients in accordance with the scope of the Licensed Practical Nurse license. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.

Qualifications

Required: Graduate of an approved School of Practical Nursing. Currently licensed as License Practical Nurse by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Board of Nursing, which includes certification to pass medications AND completion of an Ohio Board of Nursing IV therapy course. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire. Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred: One year experience in an in-patient or long term care setting, as appropriate. Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance. Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Requires some exposure to chemicals.
