Job summary

The Charge Nurse at New Horizon Family Health Services in Greenville, SC, coordinates and supervises the nursing staff and clinical suites, delivering direct practitioner support and patient care in keeping with NHFHS philosophy and policies.

Job Summary

This position is required to perform routine/standardized duties to the discharge of competent nursing staff management. The Charge Nurse is responsible for coordinating the assigned nursing staff according to the philosophy, objectives and policies/procedures of New Horizon Family Health Services, Inc. (NHFHS). The Charge Nurse responsibilities also include assigned daily duties of direct practitioner support and clinical patient care.

Duties Performed
  • Patient Assessment and Care Team Support
    • Collects and documents demographic data and history from the patient, family and others.
    • Identifies gross manifestations of common diseases and abnormal conditions.
    • Identifies gross states of faulty emotional and mental health adjustme
    • Obtains and documents vital signs and immediately reports abnormal / emergent results to the practitioner.
    • Supports practitioners in the delivery of medical care, productivity and patient flow management.
    • As a member of the Care Team, the supervising charge nurse will consult with practitioners and other health care team members to coordinate the provision of care and patient education in conjunction with other services / care plan activities.
  • Supervision
    • Evaluates the assigned nursing staff and completes job performance reviews as required.
    • Collects information and prepares necessary reports and performance documentation.
    • Works with the Practice Manager to maintain appropriate clinical staffing coverage.
    • Orders supplies and other resources as required for execution of nursing tasks.
    • Works with the NCSSD to coordinate Nursing, Medical Assistant and Patient Care Technician Orientation to promote competency and quality in the discharge of nursing duties.
  • Quality
    • Implements NHFHS Nursing / Clinical Department policies and procedures.
    • Works continually to assure delivery of quality, safe, efficient and competent nursing care.
    • Assists in contributing input / information into the nursing personnel budget.
    • Contributes suggestions, ideas and information and works with the NCSSD to refine nursing policies and procedures.
    • Participates in CQI, other internal committees and special activities that promote improvement of patient flow in the clinical area.
  • Community
    • Maintains good public (working) relations throughout the community
    • Assists, as assigned, with special projects involving community partners and the nursing staff
Qualifications
  • Education
    • Required:
      • LPN with a valid South Carolina Board of Nursing License
  • Experience:
    • Required:
      • Experience to include at least two years of community nursing
    • Preferred:
      • Minimum of 3 years' experience.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must maintain a current and active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved provider, in accordance with organizational and position requirements. Certification must be obtained through a hybrid or in-person course offered by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
