Job summary

NKC Health is seeking a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for the OBGYN 5th Floor clinic in North Kansas City. You will provide patient care under physicians, nurse practitioners, or other non-physician providers in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities include assisting providers, administering medications, documenting in the EMR, coordinating referrals, scheduling, and handling registrations and insurance forms.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing or accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current license to practice in Missouri.
• Basic Life Support certification (American Heart Association).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a physician’s office setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist providers to maximize patient volume and administer medications.
• Document patient care in EMR and manage referrals.
• Handle administrative duties: registration, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance forms, and ambulatory care charges.

What are the typical hours on the job?

The hours of operation for the OBGYN 5th Floor clinic are Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. Your primary schedule will be during those hours, with periodic need to work outside your schedule to serve our patients.

What does a LPN do?

As a LPN, you will provide patient care under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner or other non-physician provider.

What does a typical day on the job look like?

• Competently assists providers to maximize patient volume, administers medications, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and returns patient calls in a timely manner.
• Ensures effective patient communication and efficient patient flow. Documents patient care accurately and timely. Performs EMR tasks correctly and timely. Processes patient referrals timely and follows up to ensure the specialist report or test result is received.
• Follows all regulatory and patient safety clinical standards.
• Works and communicates effectively with all providers. Promotes teamwork. Providers great customer service in person and on the telephone.
• Performs administrative duties such as greeting patients; registration; scheduling; pre-certification of tests, procedures and medications; processing insurance forms; preparing financial records; answering phones; and entering ambulatory care charges.

What are the requirements for the job?

• Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing, or accredited school of professional nursing.
• Current license to practice in the state of Missouri.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a physician’s office setting, preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association.
• Basic office skills, patient centered mindset, excellent time management and organization skills; ability to multitask and work in fast paced environment.
