JOB SUMMARY:

Provides nursing care to residents according to physicians’ orders and in conformance with recognized nursing practices, established standards and administrative policies.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Administers personal hygienic, preventative, therapeutic and rehabilitative services to residents.
  • 2. Assists in maintaining a positive physical, social and psychological environment in accordance with resident needs and facility philosophy.
  • 3. Provides for the continuity and priority of resident care while assuring for the comfort, emotional care and support of residents.
  • 4. Assists with the nursing process of the unit, and provides input regarding needed or desired changes.
  • 5. Maintains documentation which accurately and completely records data pertaining to individual resident care, condition and treatment.
  • 6. Initiates and supervises necessary action in the event of an emergency or disaster.
  • 7. Protects residents, their privacy and property.
  • 8. Provides staff coverage for the following shift in the event of absenteeism.
  • 9. Confers with the D.O.N. as necessary to provide input regarding resident care needs, staffing requirements and nursing supply needs for the units.
  • 10. Assumes supervisory responsibility for the ALU department in the absence of the D.O.N.
  • 11. Notifies, when necessary, the attending physician and resident’s responsible party in the event of a change in the resident’s condition.
  • 12. Supervises resident assistants assigned to the units. Monitors their work responsibilities by making frequent resident care founds.
  • 13. Documents resident information daily, or as needed, based on residents’ conditions.
  • 14. Evaluates and conferences resident assistants as necessary. Documents, using appropriate forms.
  • 15. Gives shift report to resident assistants and oncoming nurses.
  • 16. Attends monthly nursing staff meetings and in-services.
  • 17. Administers first aid as necessary.
  • 18. Initiates emergency procedures in the event of an emergency or disaster. Notifies the D.O.N. of the situation.
  • 19. Is responsible to the D.O.N. for planning, directing, supervising and delivering of resident care.
  • 20. Is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete medical records for each resident.
  • 21. Is responsible for reporting resident care information, personnel problems and staffing problems to the D.O.N.
  • 22. Responds to all calls for help, or emergencies.
  • 23. Other tasks as requested or assigned.

QualificationsEducation and Experience

Graduate of an accredited Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nursing program, and have a genuine interest in Assisted Living nursing. Must have pharmacology skills to complete assigned work.

Licenses and Certifications:

Current and valid State of Ohio licensure for Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Current valid CPR certification.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

Knowledge of general and accepted nursing practices, and the ability to apply these to the care of residents with professionalism and compassion.

Knowledge, understanding and compassion for human behavior and the ability to relate this to the care of aged, infirm, acutely and chronically ill residents.

Ability to project credibility and assertiveness, and the ability to make mature judgments.

Knowledge of the organization, function, policies, procedures and regulations of the facility, and the ability to apply these with professionalism.

Ability to identify and anticipate the needs of residents and staff, and to intervene or refer to the proper authority as appropriate.

Ability to work autonomously, and to react and perform appropriately during emergencies.

Ability to assess residents’ conditions and provide information to physicians necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.

Knowledge of the literature, current trends and new developments in the nursing profession and the ability to apply these appropriately.

Knowledge of resident rights and the ability to respond to each resident with empathy and respect.

Knowledge of policies, procedures, philosophies, rules and regulations governing the delivery of services to consumers.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
