Montessori Lower Elementary Lead Teacher

Triangle Montessori Academy (TMA)

Position Summary

The Lower Elementary Lead Teacher is responsible for preparing and maintaining an authentic Montessori learning environment for children ages 6–9. The Lead Teacher guides each child’s academic, social, emotional, and moral development through individualized instruction, observation, and purposeful classroom leadership. The teacher works collaboratively with administration, co teachers, and families to foster a peaceful, respectful, and engaging Montessori community aligned with the school's mission and AMS standards.

Essential Responsibilities
Montessori Classroom Leadership
  • Prepare and maintain a beautiful, orderly, and engaging Montessori environment.
  • Present Montessori lessons in Language, Mathematics, Geometry, Cultural Studies, Science, and Geography.
  • Guide students through individualized learning plans based on observation and assessment.
  • Foster independence, responsibility, concentration, and intrinsic motivation.
  • Maintain accurate student records, lesson plans, and progress monitoring systems.
  • Ensure Montessori materials are complete, organized, and accessible.
Student Development
  • Observe and assess each child's academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Support students in developing executive functioning, conflict resolution, and leadership skills.
  • Facilitate Grace and Courtesy lessons and community-building activities.
  • Create a respectful classroom culture that promotes responsibility and mutual respect.
  • Communicate concerns regarding student development to administration and families in a timely and professional manner.
Family Communication
  • Build positive relationships with families through open and respectful communication.
  • Conduct parent conferences and provide written progress reports twice times per academic year.
  • Communicate classroom activities, student progress, and school initiatives regularly.
  • Partner with families to support student growth and consistency between home and school.
Collaboration & Professionalism
  • Collaborate with classroom assistants, specialists, and administration.
  • Attend faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Participate in curriculum planning and school improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Triangle Montessori Academy.
Classroom Management & Safety
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Follow all licensing and sanitation regulations and school policies.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision during classroom activities, outdoor play, field trips, and special events.
  • Model respectful behavior and positive conflict resolution.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Montessori Lower Elementary Credential (AMS, AMI, MACTE-accredited program) or willingness to obtain.
  • Minimum of one year teaching experience.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
  • Montessori Lower Elementary Credential.
  • Three or more years of Montessori teaching experience.
  • Experience in multi-age elementary classrooms.
  • Familiarity with AMS accreditation standards.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, and lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to move classroom materials and maintain the prepared environment.
