Job summary

Ravinia Festival in Chicago seeks a Low String Instructor (Cello) to lead beginner and intermediate cello studios as part of the Sistema Ravinia West Side program.

You will teach 4th–8th graders, guide repertoire and technique, and collaborate with other instructors to uphold high musical standards in a community-based after-school setting. The role emphasizes mentorship, inclusion, and access to quality music education for diverse students.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of beginning/intermediate level cello pedagogy.
• Ability to mentor students and build a positive learning environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with families and staff.
• Experience teaching in group settings with diverse learners.

Responsibilities

• Lead cello studios and low-string sectional rehearsals for Grades 4-8.
• Deliver repertoire and develop technique aligned with Ravinia curriculum.
• Participate in meetings and professional development as needed.
• Monitor student progress on an ongoing basis.
• Supervise on-site activities and attendance records.
• Collaborate with West Side administration to support students.
