Job summary

Coinbase is seeking an Architect on the Trading team to design, build, and own core trading systems, including OMS/EMS, low-latency messaging, and multi-venue connectivity. This role combines startup-like ownership with Coinbase scale.

You’ll drive reliability, set SLOs, improve observability, and mentor engineers while partnering with Product, Risk, Security and Compliance to translate technical vision into a practical roadmap.

Qualifications

• Experience architecting 24/7 trading systems with high throughput.
• Proven backend ownership of distributed systems.
• End-to-end trading platform experience across multiple venues.
• Expert in low-latency, high-throughput messaging systems.
• Experience delivering projects from scope to monitoring.
• Familiarity with regulated financial environments and auditability.
• Ability to balance engineering trade-offs with product needs.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture of the end-to-end trading platform: OMS/EMS, low-latency connectivity, and execution.
• Design low-latency, high-throughput systems for real-time financial products.
• Drive reliability, SLOs, observability, and incident response for latency-critical systems.
• Set technical standards and reduce critical technical debt.
• Mentor the team to build resilience and reduce single points of failure.
• Partner with Product, Risk, Security, and Compliance to plan roadmaps.
