Overview

The Low Boy Driver will operate low boy trailers to transport heavy equipment and machinery, to and from job sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong safety record, excellent driving skills, and experience with heavy equipment transport.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Upholds and promotes the Thompson Mission, Vision, and Values
  • Safely load, secure, transport and unload heavy equipment including excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, skid steers, and all other machinery.
  • Plans routes effectively and coordinates with team for equipment deliveries and pickups
  • Ensures timely delivery of equipment to job sites to avoid job delays
  • Performs routine maintenance and checks on trailers and trucks
  • Complies with all DOT regulations, including hours or service, log books, weight limits, invoices, and other documents.
  • Understands driving laws pertaining to heavy haulage to ensure safe and efficient transportation
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment are in good working order
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong understanding of load securement and safety practices.
  • Ability to operate and maneuver heavy equipment safely.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow all company, local, state and federal regulations and standards to ensure safe transportation
  • Ability to remain flexible in job hours worked as assignments change
  • Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions, effectively communicate and problem solve
Education and Experience
  • Valid DOT Physical
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements (Class A) for operating heavy haul equipment.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and transportation laws. Knowledge of basic mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience operating low boy trailers and transporting heavy equipment.
  • Experience in the excavation or construction industry is preferred.
  • 10-hour OSHA certification (Thompson will train)
  • CPR and First Aid (Thompson will train)
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and secure equipment, climb into cabs and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and operate a vehicle for long distances.
  • Must be able to load and unload equipment in a variety of environments including but not limited to concrete, dirt, fumes, and loud noise levels
  • Must be able to work long hours and Saturdays when needed
