Bechtel Global Corporation is leading startup planning and coordination for a major Thacker Pass project in Nevada. You will work with project management, engineering, construction and clients to integrate the startup plan, identify risks and trends, manage progress reporting, and proactively course‑correct to meet goals and schedules.

Project Overview

Thacker Pass is critical to energy security in the United States. Situated on the largest known lithium deposit in North America, this multi‑billion‑dollar mine and processing facility will ultimately produce more than six‑fold the current U.S. yearly output of lithium. The battery‑quality lithium carbonate produced at Thacker Pass will power up to 800,000 electric vehicles annually. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel manages and integrates the efforts of a contractor team in engineering and construction, and oversees procurement of about $1 billion in goods and services. Located in the high desert of north‑central Nevada, approximately 25 mi from the Oregon border, one hour northwest of Winnemucca, and three hours northeast of Reno, the project offers outdoor recreation in northern Nevada or Lake Tahoe, and nearby.

Job Summary

In this role you will lead startup planning and coordination on major projects. You will work with project management, engineering, construction and clients to integrate the startup plan, identify risks and trends, manage progress reporting, and proactively course‑correct to ensure goals, schedules and requirements are met.

Major Responsibilities

• Manage the integrated program of LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) in the Project, coordinating between workers and all affected entities to provide a safe and uniform program for control of work and isolation of energy sources.
• Ensure the energy isolation program complies with SWPP, STCP and Q4Safety, leading the LOTO team of blocking supervisors and ensuring full compliance with project procedures.
• Provide information and support to construction and pre‑commissioning teams on mechanical and electrical insulation.
• Identify insulation limits based on scope of work and develop and issue electronic energy insulation permits (EIP).
• Administer and manage the energy isolation program with strict compliance and record‑keeping.
• Provide training to project and blocking team members on the procedure to ensure strict compliance with all workers.
• Acquire necessary materials to support the energy insulation management program.
• Monitor and audit the activities of workers within a lockdown permit to ensure compliance with energy isolation.
• Supervise the installation of LOTO equipment such as padlocks and tags.

Education and Experience Requirements

Level 1: Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.

Level 2: Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 10–13 years of relevant experience or 14–17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Experience in construction work and in the pre‑commissioning stage.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical and mechanical disciplines.
• Experience in mineral processing and water treatment plants.
• Ability to understand and interpret electrical schematics (SLDs), wiring, instrument control loops and process and mechanical drawings (P&IDs).
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead team members effectively and positively in a collaborative environment.
• Problem‑solving ability in high‑pressure situations.
• Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
• Understanding of Bechtel’s applicable work processes, including standard work process procedures (preferred).
• Physical ability to perform inspections requiring walking extensively on a construction site, climbing stairs and scaffolding, working on elevated platforms and uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces.
• Ability to wear appropriate standard personal protective equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (e.g., harness, masks, hearing protection).
